I have a Compaq Presario 4526 and, according to the spec, cannot take more than the 48mb RAM fitted.. .. .Am I correct in thinking that RAM sticks are connected via the mother board. So then if I can get another mother board fitted that can take more RAM than the 48mb that I have now all will be well.

this is somehow correct. but...it will not fit in your Presario.... .. .And about RAM in a Presario, you cannot, unlike other PC users/owners/builders, just go on the road and buy these sticks, you need the Compaq sticks.. .. .You should, if you need to upgrade, consider a new machine, or a higher spec second hand one if money is an issue. There are low spec P3 units around for some £150-200...from the Compaq you can use the monitor, the harddrive and perhaps the floppy drive...sometimes the keyboard.. .. .Good luck

The max memory specified by the manufacturer doesn't necessarily mean that is the max possible. As it happens I own a Presario 1694 notebook. I only know this as I have been able to prove this wrong. I upgraded a RAM of 64meg to 192meg despite being told by the manual that max capacity is 128 meg. The factors involved as far as I have found are.. .. .How many slots do you have.. .. .Are you willing to bin memory from a slot containing 32meg when it could contain 64meg.. .. .How much money are you willing to spend.. .. .Memory is the first point of call when trying to improve a computer. I have been told this and proved it to myself.. .. .It also fluctuates quite radicaly in price since there are only a few manufaturers out there. 2 months ago it was fairly low. Whatever your memory 'card' has written on it you can be sure that it originated from one of a small handfull of manufacturers.. .. .Try Crucial . .. .I and two other friends of mine used them and no problems have occured. . .. .edited due to fat fingers. . . . [ 18 March 2002, 00:58: Message edited by: Im Not ]
