************** VIRUS ALERT - W97M/Prilissa *****************

W97M/Prilissa is a new Melissa variant. AVERT has assigned
it a risk assessment of MEDIUM--ON WATCH. There has been a
serious outbreak in Europe, and it is expected to travel
quickly.

W97M/Prilissa infects Word 97 files. It propagates itself
by creating an MS Outlook email with the subject line
"Message From (Word 97 username)" and the message text:
"This document is very Important and you've GOT to
read this !!!"
It sends this message, with an attached copy of the
infected Word 97 file, to the first 50 entries in any
address book it finds. It does this only once.

W97M/Prilissa includes a destructive payload! If the date
is December 25 of any year, it will modify the AUTOEXEC.BAT
file so that the next time the computer is booted, the hard
drive will be formatted, causing a loss of all data. In
addition, the following message will be displayed in
Word 97:

"(C) 1999 - CyberNET
Vine... Vide... Vice... Moslem Power Never End...
You Dare Rise Against Me... The Human Era is
Over, The CyberNET Era Has Come!!!
[OK]"

How many of the people you exchange email with would send you a topic/subject header like this?

It looks so suspect that the first thing I would do is delete it and send mail to its originator asking if its for real ( remember Mellisa/Prillisa ).

If you rec a Virus warning *without* reference to a url at either
Norton (Symantec), DrSolomons or McCafee you should treat the info as a hoax! - Microsoft don't count!

PS - don' get mad, get even - send this back to them:

BE VERY, VERY AFRAID!!!!!!

This is the very latest version of the most destructive virus ever propagated across the Internet - there is no know cure for it at the present time, nor is there likely to be one in the future. All the major Anti-Virus companies, ie: Norton’s. McAfee et al, DO NOT HAVE A CURE! Estimates from one un-named company spokesman range up to 5 to 6 years before any breakthrough is made.

This virus is so destructive and so insidious that just receiving the Email and not opening any attachments, it will not only completely destroy your PC, it can also affect your own actual health and wellbeing!! . This is totally dependent on the sender of the virus infected message. - IT IS A TOTALLY PERSONAL TAILORED VIRUS!!!. It is sent to an individual and can be configured for them only.

Please note that all the major ISP’s and even the might of Microsoft is unable to stop the propagation of this Virus.

Effect ( and Cause )

Shortly after the receiving the virus message you will probably be visited by at least two rather large specimens of the male sex, ( numbers depend on the sender of the virus message ), who possess a limited intelligence quotient and are carrying approx 1.5 metre lengths of very hard wood.
These “Gentlemen” ( who will most probably be of swarthy countenance and answer to the names “Luigi” or “Vinnie” ) will proceed the beat the living **** out of any computer equipment in the dwelling where you reside until it is reduced to a pile of broken plastic, glass and very bent metal.
But this is not all - as I said “BE VERY, VERY AFRAID” they may even take their “Eco-Friendly” instruments and wreak havoc on your own body, necessitating lengthy hospital stays for a full personal recovery.

If you’re asking yourself “Why Me?” - You have no one to blame but yourself, - you have blatantly persisted in passing along any old Toss that some ******** has sent to you regarding viruses ( virii? ) on the internet and then forwarded to every email address you know, without checking if there is any veracity to it. You deserve all you get you naïve ******! - Just remember how pissed off people were a few years ago with chain letters!.
WHACK! THUNK! CRUNCH! - oops, sounds like your PC just bit the dust, SQUMISH! - ( sound of 10 fingers being hit with a Pick-Axe handle ) - Sorry what’s that? You can’t type anymore - Oh dear - I’m sorry but it was hard to actually hear what you were saying in-between the screams of pain!

Ironguts: I have been lurking here for a few days now and was a little hesitant about posting, but I just HAD to reply to your post! It's very good, indeed. It is in fact so good, that if you don't mind, I'd like to initiate a "chain" with it. I guess you're right when saying that it's better to get even instead of mad.

But to be fair, blackadder DID include references to mcafee and symantec.
