Have now had IE6 on my machine for a few days. It seems much more stable then IE5.5..! And considering it's still beta that's impressive! :)

Anybody else upgraded and if so what do you think of IE6?

Oz,

Have you noticed any benifits to it, apart from it being more stable?

Is it a big download?

Couple of warnings:
The preview release contains a not very serious but very annoying cosmetic bug that cause Windows explorer to put a plus sign along side every folder (the one that is supposed to tell you there are subfolders that can be expanded.) As I said, not major, but visually annoying. I am told it is fixed in later releases.
Also, some web sites have not updated their sites to recognise IE6, you may have problems getting into some secure sites (like on-line banking, but then you wouldn't want to do on-line banking with a such an early release product, would you?)
Otherwise fine, but it can be a big download

I have been using IE6 for about 3 weeks and have had no problems, in fact it feels better then IE5, also removing of cookies has been address but found it doesn't remove them all.

I've had IE6 for a couple of weeks now. I like the way that messenger and email are integrated on the tool bar but I have had the program crash a few times. Also, without appearing too dim, I can not enable cookies anymore....they are not in the tools menu (I know, don't really like them but some sites require them).

Any suggestions?

Thank's for all your views. :)

juswonnafly The cookie control is in the same place it always was on my version IE6. Go to 'TOOLS' then select 'INTERNET OPTIONS', select 'SETTINGS' in 'TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES', and there is your cookie control.

You may also have the 'new' privacy setting on too high. Lower it to the 'LOW' setting for the moment. It'll be a great feature when it is fully utilised by complient sites. http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/up.gif

What do you all think of the new Personal Bar? I haven't made up my mind about it yet.

Give me a few more weeks with IE6 and I'll have decided upon my views on it. Too early yet! http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/compute.gif :)

Right time to head for the pub!! http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/guin.gif Cheers http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/cheers.gif

I agree with stickyb -- there are a few cosmetic issues, but nothing serious. For example, the history sidebar doesn't draw correctly first time it's opened.

It's blown up once but, because I'd downloaded the MSIE Error Reporting Tool (get it from Windows Update) it fired the error off to Microsoft. Of course whether they'll actually do anything with it is another matter! :)

The personal toolbar is obviously in its' infancy and needs service providers to supply dynamically updated and interesting content; I imagine we'll start seeing these in about 6 months or so.

The single thing still missing? The ability to switch off pop-up adverts completely.

I have been using IE6 for the past five days and I like it! I think it is pretty slick in all areas really, and I find that pages open a good deal more quickly than before.

I was rather taken aback today when I wanted to download a wav. file and it played via the Personal Bar with it's own player. Didn't expect that and it was good.

For my money I think it looks and feels good - so far!

How do you get it ?

Just had a look on their site and it wasn't mentioned. Also typed "Internet Explorer 6" into the search box and it came back with "no matches found"

Flybywyre,

Browse to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie and you should see a big ol' graphic on the left-hand side which will lead you to the setup program.

Hope you're on a fast and/or cheap link though! :)

Am I missing something?

Try as I might, IE6 just won't download for me. Hopefully it's just flavour of the month and the servers are running hot. No matter the time of day/night, same problem.

I've got the IE6.exe or whatever, but after agreeing to the EULA and choosing either simple or advanced install, it tells me I have no internet connection and that maybe the servers are busy http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/frown.gif Believable except I get a half-beep from the PC speaker which never happens usually.

Sounds worth the wait though - too bad there's no option to download the job lot - stuck with the fancy online installer. Ho hum, fingers x'd.

[Edit..somehow Norton Internet Security had blocked the d/l, no worries now. On the whole a great browser. I too like the popup bar thingy over pictures and stuff, but wonder how to tweak/disable it...]

Has anybody got any idea how long it might be before it is on "general release", or whatever they call it?

It seems we have found a 'Problem' with IE6 as it regards use on PPRuNE. See the following thread for futher details.

Has anybody else had the same problem?

I did not download the preview copy, so do not know that?

Notice now that the preview is no longer available on Windows Updates? Take it that this means that they are fine tuning it, and it may be released fully soon?

The preview of IE 6 is still available - just checked.
The virgin logo doesn't seem to be IE 6 related either.

That's odd, definitely NOT available here any longer, just double checked, it was but not now?

Anyone know why it won't run with Win95 OSR2? Or is that just down to the greed of Microsoft trying to get everyone to buy more expensive OS software?
