Surprised its not being discussed in the cabin crew section of pprune.

Just a good luck to all the cabin crew that lost their jobs this morning.

Another sad day for the airline industry...XL airways have gone into administration...

My heart goes out to all staff and crew, and wish them luck in the future.

Although this has been going on for a few days..some people's rosters went blank a few days ago...and then crew were told not to report for work last night..agents were told not to sell anything related to XL a few days back

...yet you could still purchase holidays and flights up until midnight last night!

All the same good luck to all at XL.

And now it's time for the rest of us to get ready for those rescuse flights!

"...Also among those affected are a 130-strong choir on tour to Canada from Wales who were booked on Zoom and lost £50,000 when it folded last month, and then re-booked with XL...."

A very sad day!:{
I worked for 'excelairways' as it was known then for 3 years, left in 2004. Also just flew with them a few weeks back to Santorini on a lovely new 737-800. It was a really smashing outfit to work for at Gatwick & not a bad onboard product either. I hope everyone finds suitable employment elsewhere.

Qantas UK, Monarch, Ryanair, Flybe plus ofcourse all the Gulf carriers are currently recruiting cabin crew if its of any help!

Good Luck!:)

I just want to wish all the best the XL crew, I flew for 'excel airways' in 2006 and they were an amazing 1st airline to work for. It's sad the think thats its all over now for my close friends.

Keep smiling guys :)

As a former Excel Airways member of crew, who went through what you're going through now just a few short months ago, my thoughts are with all of you...
If you are looking to keep flying, TCX are currently recruiting for all bases (check out aviationjobsearch)... I believe (not 100 sure though) that these courses will take place this winter too!
Keep strong guys and gals... I promise you, although the skies seem very grey and cloudy right now, there is a ray of light out there, and your time to shine again will come very soon!

I would just like to express my sadness for XL and all its staff. It's such a shame, I flew with them a few times and they were great flights.
It's worrying as not a week goes by at the moment without another airline in trouble...

Makes me wonder who's next.....and if it makes me wonder that it means people out there will be thinking it as well....and will try to book with an airline that will get them to their destination.....and back....surely that will speed-up the process for some airlines that are only holding on by a threat.... I don't like being the 'glass-is-half empty' person but I have a horrible feeling we've only seen the beginning....and winter is coming.

Sorry for all XL crew who lost their jobs on Friday. Having been CC in a previous life, I can imagine the feeling. As mentioned above, there are still jobs around, especially for experienced CC. For those living down South, or not too far from LHR, or willing to relocate, check this out:

Qantas Cabin Crew UK Job Opportunities (http://www.qantascabincrewuk.com/employment.html)

Dust off the old CV, and all the best!

Cheers

Thank you everyone for your comments, we are all in what can be described as mourning. We are a family, and we`ve lost our identity now.

I hope that everyone will be ok and find jobs.

Having been through a major airline collapse myself I do feel for you all and I did notice in their initial report the SKY NEWS did air their concerns for the staff of XL. Unlike customers who have been greatly inconvenienced and out of pocket and have a job to return to will get over it, especially since it's their own problem if they didn't take out travel insurance. This is a tough time for the industry but what concerns me was the CEO of BA suggesting there will be at least 30 carriers go bankrupt within the next 4 months.

Does anyone have any idea just "which" airlines he is suggesting? In a time where you would think the "low cost" or "charter" model would work it seems to be back firing, maybe due to lack of backup cash to ride them through these times. Mergers amongst the biggies is being suggested and one that comes to my mind is Air New Zealand.......any thoughts on who and when??
