For those of you who get ITV schedule in the Midlands,
tonight at 2310 'Mr Spitfire' is on!
Its been almost 18 months since my friend passed away
and is a decent tribute to this awesome aviator and true English gentleman
BTW, he STILL holds the Cape records set in 1938! :D

..Alex was a perfect gentleman and all-round top-man and flyer.

Incidentally, those Cape Town records will stand forever because the classification rules were changed.

Bless him. bm:D

It was 1939.

The Guild of Air Pilots, led by Air Cdre Rick Peacock-Edwards, hosted a Dinner at AFB Ysterplaat last month to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Henshaw's Cape Records.

Speakers included Wg Cdr Andy Green and Richard Noble.

The other day I watched the 1942 film, "The First of the Few", once again. Towards the end there is a Spitfire flying display...does anyone know whether this was flown by Alex Henshaw..or, indeed, whether there is any film extant of his infamous Spitfire displays?

As long as the Spitfire flies, Alex will never really leave us. What a pilot, what talent, tis it not a shame that most of us grow old.
