When I log on to Pprune I can hear the computer writing to the hard drive, this continues if I scroll up and down any page. If I continue to do this it actuall fills the hard drive in about 6 minutes, luckily all this goes away as soon as I log off.. .. .Perhaps I do not have the correct Java or whatever to use the pages correctly? What do I need ? is their a link ?

What version of browser are you using?. .. .Most Java libraries are built in, but PPRuNe doesn't make use of Java. If you're using IE then I would check to see how much temporary area your browser is assigned. To do this, click on Tool, Internet Options, Temporary Internet Files.. .. .B

616mb is too much! Change it to 20mb.

Sounds more like a memory leak. What are your swap file settings? . .Have you got antivirus software installed and updated? There was one going round recently that once it got in to your system scanned everything yu looked at for e-mail addresses, passwords, etc, and send them back down the line. One of the early versions had a memory leak, which ment it filled up the swap file very quickly.

Agree with StickyB - does sound like a memory (or lack of it) problem.. .. .How much RAM do you have on your system? If you don't have enough you'll be using your swap file like crazy. It's quite cheap to add more memory right now due to comparitively low DRAM prices.. .. .You'd be surprised how much difference more RAM makes to your PC! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="smile.gif" />

Thanks for all the help.. .. .I have 192MB RAM. I have the latest Norton antivirus. Yes I did have a virus problem but I am sure the Norton has sorted it.. .. .Is the swap file the same as virtual memory? if so I have it set for Windows to manage the virtual memory.. .. .This is also an intermittent problem, but only occurs with Pprune. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="confused.gif" />
