Flew home from TFS on Thomsonfly last week into DSA. I know it's a holiday charter flight. I know I'm merely SLF. I know it's cattle class. I don't expect business class comfort levels or acres of leg room.

I do expect a seat that doesn't collapse when I sit in it and make my back and leg numb after 30 minutes of the 4 and and a half hour flight. :mad:

How/why can an airline allow an aircraft which it knows will be filled to capacity to operate without enough functioning seats for all the passengers?

It was bad enough they used a 737-300 (G-THOO) for a flight of that length - no films for the kids to watch, a bit of the ceiling hanging off over my head.

The broken seat just added insult to injury to be honest.

The cabin crew were great and very sympathetic but couldn't magic a new seat up obviously! The two I spoke to said they hated working on the -300 and it was too small - I agreed wholeheartedly!

Came back from holiday on a busted seat, can't believe it's allowed.:mad:

Where does it say you get IFE on low cost flights or charter?

broken seats are not allowed!!
sometimes the seat actuator, which alllows you to adjust the seat forward/rearward is broken. this is ok if your seat is fixed in the upright position.
my advise, if your seat is broken, inform the crew before the aircraft takes off. they will need to call maintenance to fix it. if they cant they seat will be considered inop and needs to be unoccupied until fixed.
if the aircraft is full then the flight crew need to organise somethin(maybe ofloading of passengers)
i know this is not an ideal situation but in the event of an accident , your seat is crucial for protecting you against injury, hence its servicability is critical!!

It was the bottom of the seat that was broken - the rear of it was falling through the frame on the right hand side, leaving me wedged in at an angle. Your info is helpful though as I have complained to Thomson, so it will be interesting to see what they have to say.

It doesn't say anywhere you get IFE on charters but when T-Fly are flying -800s with TVs out of the same airport it makes me question why they use the smallest, oldest aircraft for their longer flights/ (probably capacity I guess). That was a secondary point in any case, I'm okay with the book/ipod/DS/PSP combination!

The problem about broken seats is that usually the person who breaks if fails to tell the cabin crew. Now we dont have time for engineers to sit in every seat during turn arounds and make sure they work correctly. The crew then depend on the next customer to bring it to their attention. It is only if this is done that we can report it in the defects log!
