Whilst availing myself of the sumptuous breakfast/brunch buffet in the Wynne Hotel yesterday (Sunday) in Las Vegas, I noticed a couple of 9 sqn mates in growbags wandering around with overflowing plates. Coming to LAS every 5 to 8 weeks with work its the first time I've seen UK uniformed personnel in public and wondered if the boys are Red Flagging and making use of their kit to throw standard chat up lines to the assorted tottie??

Was very nice to see RAF out in public and wonder if there will ever be a time when wearing the uniform and showing the pride it conveys will become the norm in our sceptered isles?

I would have gone over to say hi but the massed throngs of VS Doris's kept me entranced for far too long!!!!

Tis a well known fact that aircrew are stitched into their growbags when they qualify for their wings, (This also explains why HRH Willy Wales is seen in civvy street without his growbag.:)). They have them surgically removed during their Termination medical.

Who needs uniform to chat up women in Las Vegas, its whats in your wallet that counts....

I guess a wallet full of JPA receipts doesn't swing it then?

When I was flying for the Queen we were not permitted to wear growbags in the Mess, let alone out in a hotel. How standards have slipped!

If you have to flash the cards/cash to win over an American gal then you are not doing it right... :E

Were they flying that day - if not, they should have been wearing No2A with SD hat. Growbags just look sloppy.

Sorry, party pooper in me says similar - dress regs definately say that growbag should not have been worn in the hotel. Bad luck chaps, you've been outed:E

They're probably on Flag working 14 hr days on pretty A-level mission planning and execution, if the boys want to save 5 mins by grabbing breakfast in flight suits then I see no problem. Getting drunk and smashing the place up whilst wearing your name and sqn badge would seem a little ill advised but it seems they weren't. They were eating breakfast. Good on them, the Americans do it all the time - when in Rome and all that. Although - the Wynn Casino can't be where they're staying as you're not allowed to stay in a place where you can gamble. We had to stay in a motel with drug dealers and prostitutes but no casino so that made it ok then... :ugh:

When in Rome .......... the flying suit is worn in public by the US military and the population is very pro-military so what is the problem?

I well remember a trip to the local playboy club in flying suits from my days with the USAF.

To those who object to flying suits in public I would ask you what you expect your local tradesman to wear. Why hide what you do - wear your biro with pride!

Sorry, I just have to bite.

No 2s? Seriously? Who are you people? What do you do?

I am guessing you are either over 50 or work at Cranwell/Linton and have never left (or both). Probably daydream wistfully about the days when people flew in No1s.

Try thinking 21st century and using a bit of common sense every now and again, it's really liberating.

Usually, the accom shouldn't be casinos (even if they are cheaper) so the public don't see pilots having fun at the taxpayer's expense. but often, casino accom on Red Flag was unavoidable.

And the chaps have to have breakfast before going to work! I've had several breakfasts in the LV in growbags. (as if we were going to take blues!). It;s quite bizarre having a 'planning' breakfast with maps out on the table with lard a$$ americans feeding quarters into slot machines next to you.

Soddim,

You never mentioned the playboy club when you threw that party . . . . . . Luke AFB has a lot to answer for!

By the by, I recently came across some photos of that trip, pictures of a certain USAF Captain who was the only single female at the above mentioned soiree. If I haven't thanked you before, THANK YOU! :D:D;):D:D

Oh FFS, some people on here have a real grip of the non-essential, and most aren't entitled to wear a flying suit.

Breakfast down route in growbag - absolutely. Christ on a bike, the USAF (well the ATA) holds a 3 day convention in a major hotel with some 3000 attendees and dress of the day(s) is.....flying suits (or BDUs for the non-entitled).

Op Twenty - I think I stayed in that same motel...for about 20 minutes before the skipper moved us to Bally's and saved 20 bucks a room in the process. The standard hotel (Holiday Inn on Flamingo) was great but is no more methinks. For a while the new standard was the Holiday Inn Casino Boardwalk on the Strip.

Btw, when do we start the 'why do FJ pilots get to stay at the Wynn when the truckies are slumming it in a La Quinta/Residence Inn (insert perfectly acceptable chain hotel as appropriate)' thread?:}

Rant over!

Training risky!

You asked the question if they were flying that day? and if they were not flying then suggested they should have been in no2A with SD hat, err why?

If they were not flying that day then they should have been in shorts and sandals and heading down to Crazy horse too (damn its closed down now) but you get the idea.
more importantly if they were not flying apart from it being the only free meal these days in hotels why were they not still in bed sleeping off the head from a night in the voodoo lounge and the piano bar!!! Pah fast jet boys just dont have a clue!
