Iīm highly interested in the Cathay Pacific Cadet Pilot Program, but a Hong Kong temporary resident card is required. (By the way: A Cathay Pacific pilot told me that heīs sure that just the temporary one is required and NOT the permanent like itīs written on the job FAQ of their homepage) Unfortunately I donīt have such a card. Are there as a european citizen any possibilities to obtain this status/card?

Over and above, Iīd like to know what a kind of company Cathay is. Some reports in the internet tell from a great employer, while others claim the opposite. Whatīs true?

Thank you very much in advance for your help!

You are correct, you only need to be residency to apply for the program. PR no longer apply on it. For application of HK ID card please check this site for further reference The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region - Immigration Department (http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/public_3.htm#d). You would never know the REAL answer for your last question until one day you are working there with Cathay Pacific.

Thanks for your help, but I already new this site and thereīs no answer how to get a temporary residency in Hong Kong as a foreigner! I just heard that studying in HK may help... I really gave everything without having an answer for the conditions of receiving an temporary ID card, so please keep helping me.

Heya buddy

I'm here on a temp visa with a HK ID card. First I got a working/holiday visa (maybe search the before mentioned website for details about that?) From what I learnt I don't even think you actually have to work with it! Anyway, it's valid for 12 months, but if you do get a job and they want to sponsor you to stay longer, it's really easy. It's only about HKD160 and a bunch of paperwork to get sponsored by your employer. I got a HKID with the working/holiday visa anyway so you it's up to you if you stay longer (And obviously your employer too)

And I've already been through the cadet selection once (and got rejected!) with the HKID, but I'll be back!!

Best of luck! :ok:

Wow that sounds well, but when did Cathay sponsor you the temp. id card and what citizenship(s) do you have? (By the way: I have two EU citizenships)

Did you get it before applying or later?

How did you handle that you need to obtaine the status of temp. residency for applying (!)?

Anyway I donīt believe that theyīll sponsor you the card, because if so Cathay wouldnīt require the card for application, right?

Would there be a possibility to get the card without being sponsored by Cathay? For example by telling the immigration department about your problem?
