""Cathay Pacific welcomes ruling of the Judicial Review
Posted On: 29 Aug 2008
Cathay Pacific welcomes the ruling of the Judicial Review (JR) against the decisions of the Privacy Commissioner and the Administrative Appeals Board (AAB) regarding the company’s procedures to collect medical information under the Attendance Monitoring Programme (AMP) for cabin crew.

We are pleased that the JR ruling confirms the need for Cathay Pacific to seek medical information under the airline’s AMP, and importantly, acknowledges that in informing cabin crew of the possible consequences of a failure to disclose relevant medical records, Cathay Pacific was “doing no more than meeting the requirements” of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance.

Cathay Pacific has an obligation to ensure that our cabin crew are medically fit to discharge their duties in accordance with the Civil Aviation Directives. The AMP is a very important programme to manage cabin crew attendance in a timely and caring manner and it will remain so.

Cathay Pacific will continue to work with the Privacy Commissioner on important matters of best practices regarding data privacy.
