Hmmmm...interesting this one...Who thinks the 5.7% proposed payrise is good??? :confused:
Well, compared to the rest of the country/economy,maybe........................
BUT,considering the companies we supply services for, B.P., conoco, centrica etc etc, not really. Just take centrica/B-gas, alone...They had no problem whatsoever putting their prices up 15% in January,then another 35% in July to Joe public...yes,do the math's,that FIFTY PERCENT in 6 month's := ....They say because of rising cost's blah blah,(could you imagine centrica's reaction if CHC told them they need to pay 50% more now for their services due to increase costs etc)!!!!! Actually,they should,but anyway,that's another topic.... BP,Shell etc are making record obscene profits and are not struggling in this recession, so why do we think anywhere in single figures for a payrise?? :ugh:
GP's are professionals, at the moment,not tested every six months,no medicals, no chance of ditching at night etc, they are on over 100k...as they should be...they got a 30% payrise 3 years ago as there was a shortage(that ring's a bell)!!! Now, think of the N.Sea guys, for as long as I remember now, we have been flexible and do overtime all the time at all bases due to the continued shortage of qualified pilots,and if we simply just stopped doing overtime,the bloody places would have to cancel so many flights it would be embarrassing!!!! So,again,why are Bristow's thinking single figures???
Did the Bristow big bosses get just 5.7%?????????????????? Not bloody likely.... :mad:
Anyway, you get my point, just hope CHC remember who they work for, (oil and gas supply,not medium haul airlines flying Joe public) what profits they make,and how short of pilots we all continue to be, having to do overtime to make the bases work when they negotiate their rise next year....

Usually empolyees of any kind that contribute to the bottom line can get stock at a 'preferred' rate. Take the raise and invest in those oil companies. At least then you're a larger chip in the money game. (Wish I had many years ago)

Swop you anyday. No payrise myself in 4 years. Infact, a 35% cut because the place I work for is going under! I do understand your point though. Very much.

If you are a Bristow pilot, then I guess you'll be voting no in the ballot, and then voting with your feet? :ugh:

If not a Bristow pilot, then is this sour grapes?

5.7% yes but with the intro of equal time....5.7% for half the year = 11.4% for the whole year!!!...its not bad considering we get home everynight, half the year off...and the other advantages the company offers... sounds like sour grapes to me......will be interested to see what CHC CC manage to come up with in their next review...good luck guys.

5.7%!!! Pilots in Nigeria would walk 10 km barefoot over broken glass for 5.7% :}. I suppose it's because you have a union in the North Sea and management actually talk to you and manage. In Nigeria we just get bullied and have to accept what we're given :mad:

Sctasta allowances....... are they paid in cash? We've just been told that we'll be paid our allowances as part of salary. Great, except it's pretty difficult finding a bank in Escravos or Eket. That cold, wet climate and wearing a rubber suit to work is looking more tempting every day.

not much around otherwise??? what about the Brae pool, or Mid Brae Inn for a gastronomic delight and a pint of their finest...or if you really want to push the boat out there is a quick hop down to Flint's :eek: .......Aberdeen/Norwich seem to be short at the moment but i dont recall seeing many leaving Scatsta to fill the void. Work in Aberdeen, live in Aberdeen...Work in Scatsta, live where you want. I agree that the allowance in Scatsta could be improved but it i am led to believe it was negotiated the last time at a local level with out linking to RPI or a salary band. Never the less this never ending argument takes us away from the topic of this thread, whether you work in Scatsta Aberdeen Norwich or where ever 5.7% in the current economic climate, oil company profits aside, is not a bad offer, along with everything else that has been achieved over the last 18 months. We are doing a lot better than many of our fixed wing collegues.

..and that captain's buy in day is often flying from Aberdeen to the Shetland basin to pick up a compasionate because you guys don't fly at the weekends for some reason!

...second thoughts keep it that way, more money for me!

Two captains left late last year for berths in Aberdeen and I believe a co-pilot has just resigned to go to pastures new.

Having had the 'best deal' in Bristow for many years, and always replying with the answer, 'You can always apply to work in Scatsta' to anyone who complained, maybe the boot is now on the other foot?

Two weeks away from home can be be a pain, I know I have done it (in fact I often spent three or four weeks away from home on another job). But it does mean using someone else's car and petrol for two weeks, no 0600 reports as at Aberdeen and finished most days at 1800 at the latest, not 2130 as I did in Aberdeen last night.

As always, in any company with different bases on different routines, it is a case of 'swings and roundabouts'. Sometimes one base has the 'best deal' and then its the turn of a different base.

Cest la vie (or something like that!)

Come on Bristow pilots - 5.7% is not enough rumour has it BP have given their guys 10%. You are in the oil industry - they are crying out for helicopters and now is the time to up your wages - Don't rely on the CHC guys and gals to do all the hard work. Now is the time to stand up and be counted. We live in a capitalist world so use the leverage you have now - if they have offered 5.7% they will go at least 1.5% above - never accept the first offer!!

Yes you are right, the allowances for bond certainly (don't know for sure about the others) are a lot better per day compared to scatsta - In the region of double I believe.

With respect to the current economic climate we certainly deserve to get better allowances & most importantly a match to other company allowances (certainly for remote base operations).

Bondu made an interesting point regarding "best deals" within bases & how it swings in roundabouts which is 1 of the reasons why a few of us have applied to go back to the mainland. The allowances certainly are far from satisfactory. Equal time on mainland & along with the prospect of being home every night certainly does it for me!

Its just a waiting game for those who want to go to aberdeen as they have to be replaced of course!

If 30% can't be bothered to vote, then what do you expect. At a time when the offshore North sea rig guys SNS have gone to a 2 week on, 3 week off roster!!! Who are the mugs here?:mad:

And as always, the only figures that count are the percentages of those who voted. So the result is as follows: -

Yes votes - 83%

No votes - 17%

Those are the figures that matter.

You seem to be in the know. Any truth in the rumour that a top of scale Bristow Captain now earns about 6K more that a CHC top of scale and that the Bristow boys got a 1.5% bonus a couple of months ago as well as having share options?

WW, all that is more or less true, but don't forget CHC has a better pension scheme than BHL. There is an element of swings and roundabouts

As Helicomparator says, that's about right. And I also agree with his statement that the CHC pension scheme is better than the Bristow scheme. Is the grass greener on the CHC side? Or the Bristow side? Entirely depends on your point of view - the famous 'swings and roundabouts'!

the main advantage to having the cash over the pension is that you can buy more pension with salary sacrifice or keep the cash if you have other items in your planned retirement portfolio. with a pension you get it when you retire. Let see what scotia manage to achieve.......

Bringing this issue back up...this was in the news today, and reiterates my first point......
"Average salaries for GPs rose from 73,000 pounds in 2002-03 to 114,000 pounds in 2005-06, the report said. Hours worked each week dropped by seven hours during the same period".
"However, the new contracts have succeed in raising the number of doctors in the system and have improved the consistency of care for long-term illnesses".
We are still short of Qualified pilots on the N.sea and working for the richest clients...
Something to keep in mind for next year....
