From KUNA (Kuwait News Agency)
KUWAIT, Aug 21 - A small base station antenna of Kuwait International AirportKuwait International Airport was damaged on Thursday when the wheels of a cargo plane hit it during take-off.
"The plane is a foreign military aircraft of Alushen 76 type (wrong spelling, it should be Ilyushin)," Director of Operations of Kuwait's Directorate General of Civil Aviation Essam Al-Zamel told KUNA.
"The aircraft was taking off the eastern runway of the airport when on route to Kabul airport, Afghanistan.
"It was on so low altitude that its wheels touched the base station antenna at the end of the runway," he revealed.
"Minor material damage resulted from the accident and the aircraft pursued its destination," he added, noting that the accident did not hinder the air traffic at the airport at all.

Going slightly off topic...

Some of the Russian birds really have a long and weak take off roll. Don't know if they're like that generally or just are more sensitive to hot and high

Ahh this beats TV:

Kuwait News Agency says:
...on route to Kabul...
Errr..wasn't it DEPARTING from Kuwait, ergo it would have been heading to Kabul, as in "when DEPARTING to Kabul"??

aircraft was taking off the eastern runway
Errr...(#2)...that would be the ol' HEAVYLIFT version of said Alushen [sic], Mr. Essam, would it - since you noted it took the runway right off?!?!? :p

(Next NOTAM issued from Kuwait, likely penned by said Mr. quotable:
NOTAM OKBK / KWI RUNWAY MISSING STOP NO OPS PERMITTED ON EASTERN RUNWAY AS IT IS NOW MISSING AFTER BEING TAKEN OFF BY AN EASTERN-BOUND "EN-ROUTED" ALUSHEN. IF FOUND, PLEASE RETURN FOR MINeR REWARD STOP) :D

the aircraft pursued its destination
Errr... (#3)... Musta been one of them cowboy -76's rigged up with them fancy shooting-things since it was headed east to PURSUE said destination. Look out, Kabul! :p

Hint...if you release info for the press, best have someone else check your work...or if they quoted you wrong, time for tea with said reporter! :} Picky? Perhaps. But not much was on TV today. Have fun.

Gotta love it. Out. :p
