Ladies and Gents,

Can anyone provide information concerning the conditions, allowances, tax implications and types of operations flown for pilots touring to Dili with CHC Australia?

Thinking of signing on for a touring job .... thought the weather may be better.

Any tips or pearls of wisdom greatly appreciated!

Unsure of tax implications however, I believe that because you work OS for half the year you do pay less tax. Allowances are CHC standard DTA of $4.57/hour for entire tour plus $2.26/hour Dili allowance (only when in country). Allowances are tax free.

I hope this helps.

Good luck.

After 90 continuous days you will cease to pay Oz tax and will then be taxed a flat 20% Timor tax. It is a good deal but unlike back in Oz the DTA and Dili allowance are also taxed at 20% .

Oh, and it's sunny all day (except when it rains) :)

BB's, with the guys working approx 2 weeks on 2 weeks off here in Dili do they still qualify for the 90 day tax period? Or would it restart every rotation?

You qualify after 90 days of OS earning (two on two off) but if you find yourself at an Oz base for a tour the process starts again. Pre the 90 day qualifier you are taxed in Oz and the 20% Timor as well... you will have a complicated tax return if you are in and out of the place.

The tax law is quite specific as to requirements for qualifying for the 90 day rule for foreign service. Working a regular cycle of 2/4/6 weeks in foreign service and 2/4/6 weeks off in Australia (or out of Australia for that matter), does not interfere with the continuity required for the 90 day rule. In other words, Australian tax payers still qualify for the 90 day rule tax break whilst touring from Australia.
