View Full Version : Decent UK unlimited anytime access?

I've just signed up for AOL's (UK) new deal whereby you get an anytime 0800 number for a flat rate of £14.99 per month.

The trouble is it's a slow as watching paint dry. I'll probably stick it out a few more days to make use of the 50 hours totally free trial, but quite honestly I'd rather pay for the phone calls and have my lightning fast (usually) line one connection.

The other problem is that I've got Outlook Express full of files related to BALPA work and AOL won't let you use Outlook Express as your mail server.

Does anyone know of any other ISP, with a similar flat rate anytime deal, that goes at a sensible speed and lets you use IE5 / OE5?

Anyone got any comments on ADSL (or home highway)? Is it worth the money? Will it be available in darkest East Kent (Herne Bay).
When's it gonna come down in price?

BTW, off peak deals don't interest me as I tend to do a lot during the day.

Try <A HREF="http://www.breathe.com." TARGET="_blank">www.breathe.com.</A>

They were offering £50 one-off for life free calls. All OK so far, but I don't know if they're still taking subscriptions.

Be safe.

I use breathe, only allowed 50,000 people, now full and no more allowed. Service is good though !

Freeserve have just started a deal for 12.99 per month, try them - much better than AOL, and you can use all your standard software (IE, Netscare, Outlook).

Cheers

I use thefreeinternet, it's not quite free because it costs £ 50.00 per year and it takes a while and a bit more to get logged on in the evenings but it seems to be getting better. Speed is ok too!

ntlworld free unlimited internet access 24/7.
Requires £10 worth of telephone calls per month, so if you only spend £9 per month the net will cost you £1. No problems with logging on or speed.

Thanks for the ideas folks,

After the AOL experience, I'm not sure I'm ready to sign up for a year in advance, just in case it's cr@p (or turns into it after three months)!

I'm not sure if NTL runs down my street, but that does sound like a good deal.

I'll probably take a look at freeserve, s'pose they'll offer a free trial.

Any more ideas - keep 'em comin'.

Cheers!

You don't need to be on a ntl cable line you can join ntlworld and you get a linewise socket, as cable and wireless used to be, that dials an automatic number to put you on their network.

breathe has just stopped the service. So much for £50 for life. Bastards!
