Perhaps more indicative:

"These helicopters should be forced to fly the 2500 feet or get a fine or license taken away after so many offenses. Why not fly them over the ocean a mile out?? Then they can fly over the homes of the people who are actually IN the helicopters, the folks in Sagaponack and Georgica!"


So perhaps the primary motivation here is jealousy. We've all seen people come along and expect anybody associated with helicopters to be dripping in gold, lighting cigars with the largest available unit of whatever currency applies.

These people will never go away, but as the earlier posts about the poll in Britain showed, some variation in the results can be achieved by us as a community.

Perhaps somebody whose employment would be affected by this bill would like to write to the good Senator?

What about every puddling jumper/bug smashing plank. The noise they put out is incredible. I regularly have Cessna's etc flying over my house droning away. If they were grounded based equipment, they would be banned in almost every country.

Freewheel got it right - this is all about jealousy! Even 3500 agl won't satisfy the Noise Nazies because they will still be able to see us.

In the summer I fly in and out of East Hampton almost daily and the local helicopter community has done very commendable things trying to mitigate helicopter noise impact. Take a look at Eastern Region Helicopter Council's webpage for more news.

ERHC has done an excellent job in educating pilots about fly neighborly routes and profiles. When able, we (Sikorskys and large Bells) fly offshore at 3500 agl until very close to the airport. On departure we initiate an immediate climb at Vy to a minimum 2500 agl and then angle our route offshore again.

Hmm, isn't flight over water a bad idea unless it's necessary? I know my instructor always liked to fly just off the beach because "It's a hell of a way to swim." Not to mention that an emergency water landing is more complicated.

"Exempt from the law would be “helicopters used exclusively in the government service of the United States of America, the State of New York, or any municipal corporation of the state”—which would cover police helicopters—and also “helicopters being used exclusively for agricultural operations.” "

What about EMS helicopters? As far as I'm aware, these are not government service helis. This bill would mean they'd be forced to go out of their way and maybe lengthen response times.
Which should be more important? The convenience of people in their homes, or the safety of people doing their jobs, some of whom are actively helping others?
Seems like a stupid law IMHO.
