Rumour has it MK Airlines have started recruiting again for First Offcier positions on the B747-200 fleet. Looks like a good time to join after new investment and the chance of some new equiptment. Have a look at www.mkairlines.com/aircrewapplications:ok:

I got a phone call for a chat with MK airlines. They seem quite informal about things... anybody tell me more about the interview process... which sim.... what type of ops/ tech. questions. The company structure... who is funding them these days? PM if you want ...

Cheers folks

I've heard back to say expect an interview in a couple of weeks.

I'm an F/o on a passenger turbo prop so quite a big jump. What experience do you guys have?

good luck to everyone planning to join- i can assure you there will be at least one position available soon, mine!
flying heavy jets is a great thing but it can only outweigh the negatives to a point- whereafter it is no longer worth it.

hi ya

pfm08 please tell me why you are not ' vibbing ' with MK... I mean I don't know any airline who doesn't want their pound of flesh... I have flown for a few, and they all change rostas... have tech probs, etc...Have they lied about pay or your conditions... just interested as I have applied to them..

What's the latest in terms of rosters/schedules (rough estimate of days off per month), QOL and 747 newbie FO pay (what could one expect first year)? Are UK-based pilots based out of Manston?

What's the latest word on potential 747-400s?

Anyone have a course date who's starting with MK? I'm in the hold pool waiting on a date. Suspect there'll be one early next year I'm guessing.

Can someone who is recently hired provide examples of experience levels? How many hours, aircraft types flown, etc.? I have applied but I have heard nothing. Just trying to gauge my probabilities...

Congrats to those who have been hired. Is MK just hiring for the 747 or also for the DC8?

Wireless
3rd Nov 2008, 13:29
Just 747 as far as I could gauge.

Whispering Giant

Recruitment at MK is just for the 747. The last DC8 they had was sold in August and the DC8 sim has been sold.

Hi Guys,

My mate says flying for MK on the 747 is good fun and the guys are great but unfortunately the money aint. If your an F/O and dont fly for a month your basic you take home is USD1100 a month before tax. Most of the flightdeck I know arent happy at the moment. The big issue is money and being messed around continuously by crewing who have no clue what they are doing.
After chatting to some of the guys that are working for them and seeing how there operations mess with there family life I have decided to remain where I am. When it comes to money you can earn better flying for a regional airline in the UK.
However the good news is if you have more than 1000 hours they will look at you and 500 hours on a heavy will help you get a better job somewhere else.

Mate the guys that would have done your interview are straight guys. Give them a call and ask them straight out what the sittuation is.

It is believed that the training of first officers will be on going into 2009, as there appears to be all sorts of plans for the future, however everything is a secret even for those of us that work there !

flyingmachine74
15th Dec 2008, 12:02
Before you leave your current job, make sure that you can survive on MKs salary, you will be away from home for 16 to 25 days depending on how busy the a/c are and be prepared to get shafted by the kids in crewing who dictate the pilots lives. Forget any xmas, wedding, birthday etc !
On the positive, theres a good bunch of guys there and you ll get vast experience from this worldwide operation. Once your sim training is complete, line training can be slow due to the backlog. Put it this way as fast as crew get trained others leave, mainly due to salary and getting messed about. If you can handle this you ll have fun, they also making new guys sign a 3 year bonding to try make them stay. The lifestyle tends to upset wives/girlfriends more than the pilots themselves as nobody can plan there lives.....good luck !

flyingmachine74
15th Dec 2008, 12:10
Pilots can base prity much anywhere in the UK, the roster is an absolute shambles, you can expect to do anything from 16 days to 25 days out depending on work load, however its normally around 19 days. Days at home again vary but normally around 14. The money is really ****, hence a high percentage of there crew looking to move on. On the line theres a good bunch of guys, and youll get vast worldwide experience although a lot of the routes are into the arsehole places of Africa. The biggest prob seems to be money and roster.

flyingmachine74

They will look at you with the experience you have.......be patient nothing happens quickly !

We have a pool? If there is anyone in this so called pool. I think they need to get out now or they will end up looking like a prune from being immersed in water for so long.

Any news of new recruitment at MK? I've been periodically updating my cv on their website over the last year, but so far havent heard anything... 3800tt, 1400 on ERJ-135's and 1000 command on D-228's. South African ATPL with instructors. Does one still need a JAA licence?

Thanks chaps!

No recruitment at the moment. Your hours/experience look ideal, but I think you would be expected to have done the JAA writtens. Recent intakes (which unfortunately means a year ago) have been mostly African experience, mixed in with a few Europeans.
True, the money is rubbish (particularly at the moment) but it has to be more interesting than flying a 737 for a low cost.

Hi guys,

Has anybody been hired recently ? Any news from MK, Is it true they are only operating 2 planes at the moment ?
When you talk about low salarys, on an average month, what take home pay can you expect ?

Thanks in advance for your answers..
