Hi All,

I am hoping that somebody may be able to help me with some information that I am seeking.

A distant relative is searching for information on his father (whom he never met) and has asked me to help.

On obtaining a copy of his dad's death certificate we noted that his occupation at the time of death was 'Airline Supervisor' for Allied Aviation Company. We are assuming that it would have been at Kirkbride/Carlisle Airport as his address at the time was Burgh By Sands (approx 5 miles from Carlisle).

Can anybody give me any information on this company as I cannot find anything on the net. By the way his dads name was Edward Roy KERSHAW but he was commonly known as Roy.

We know he joined the Navy in 1938 then the Fleet Air Arm as a pilot before joining the Air Transport Auxiliary in 1942 till 1945. We are a bit unsure of what he got up to after this up until his premature death in August 1951.

Hope someone can help or point me in the right direction.

Best regards,
Simon

I've just had a look through Ron Smith's five volumes of British Built Aircraft and can see no reference to Allied. The nearest was Alliance but they were down in Acton.

Here might be a good place to start... Carlisle seems the obvious choice, but maybe there was something at happening at Silloth/Millom?

Either way the local aviation society would probably be able to help...

Welcome to the RAF Millom Aviation & Military Museum (http://www.rafmillom.co.uk/)

There was an Allied Airways at Aberdeen but I believe this was a pre-war company. Maybe they revived after the war and flew a service to Carlisle?
