Right now, it's this (http://www.duncans.tv/2008/vodafone-fold-in-new-zealand) one. Not endorsing the company, even though my company gives me one of their phones, and they've just bought my ISP; but I love that song, and it's quite appropriate just now.

Then again, if you want an anthem for life, there's always this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4lWGIlGZCY) ;):ok:

Not my sound track, but is there anywhere in the known universe that you can go and not hear fecking ABBA. It was bad enough first time round without once again having to go through having the musical equivalent of space dust* continually foisted upon ones self.

* Space dust it's sweet and bubbly but in time leaves you feeling extremely nauseated and sets your teeth on edge. :\:ugh:

Although from the Northeast, I never did like Springsteen - with the exception of this: YouTube - Bruce Springsteen - The River (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAB4vOkL6cE&feature=related) Real tribute to memories.

Makes one think of life in the airline industry and the pining for the days of youth - "I tried to forget and Mary acted like she didn't care"
"Union card at 19"
"Johnstown Construction company comes upon hard times and we
are all out of work!"

Maybe he flew airplanes in a previous life!

Ahh, the Moodies (eyes mist over and the munchies come upon me unbid.)

As a fanatic from On the Threshold of a Dream (which wasn't really a very good album at all when viewed 40 years down the track, in fact some of it is excruciating) I had to have everything remotely connected with the MB's, so I bought the Blue Jays album of JH and JL and always loved the opening track, This Morning. Lush and sweet and harmonic, the two of them at their best.

Just checked out YouTube and came across this version. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJM5Yo5bpqM) I feared the worst, I mean without the harmonies how could it not be awful? Well, it's not, this guy is good, even if he switches occasionally from one harmony to the other in midphrase, but what the hell, I provided the real harmonies for him and we made beautiful music together for five minutes or so. Precious memories........

Doing a search and found the poster had removed his link, so mine is now meaningless. Bummer.

If you mean by Current Sound Track does that mean playing constantly in yer head?

Even when trying to sleep, shower, shave and all the other s's.

It has recently become common for me and I just can't shake them off once they start - no tracks in particular but all around the late 80's - very alarming!

The tracks appear to come through my teeth, I find grinding does not alleviate the constant barrage of "Walk like an Egyptian", "Living on a Prayer", "Addicted to love" etc...

Can anyone offer some advice to at least project me to the nineties and maybe, if i'm blessed, beyond.

I can feel it coming in the air tonight.

12th Sep 2008, 23:33
Candoo... it can mean anything you want, really. For me, I sometimes go throughout my day realizing there's a song rattling around in the back of my mind and if I pay attention, I realize it has significance. Other times, I want to stop the damn 8-track tape! Other days, I wake up with the song and some days I reach for it.

Either way, the purpose of this thread is to share frames of mind and music. I've found I've discovered some artists I never knew and re-discovered those I'd let slip away.

Please continue to share yours...:ok:

12th Sep 2008, 23:47

Tis the eight track thing that is bugging - a song will keep going round and round in my head at the most inappropriate moment.

More bizarrely it's almost always songs I never really knew before.

Interesting to hear your take on it!

I've had "Band on the run" - McCartney and Wings - popping into my head lots lately.
If it had to be him, I'm glad it's that one and not "Mull of Kintyre" or the stupid one about the policeman playing a tune on his flute, toot toot toot toot ... he's pretty shameless with the dodgy lyrics at times, for a bloke who can write an absolute cracker on a good day.
Come to think of it, "Band on the run" has got the jailer man and sailor Sam searching everyone ... maybe there's a deep double meaning to it I'm not getting?! On ya Sir Paul.

I spent four months (really) learning Sultans of Swing when I were starting out on the strat. I learnt it note for note, one bar at a time from start to finish. By the time I'd nailed it, I'd learnt all about scales, scale linking, double stops, bends, holds & hammer on's & pull offs and how to play without a pick. All from one song.

Could be opening myself up to all sorts of Kylie-type jokes here but based on that one song posted, I think she's got a great voice. We only get to hear one octave of it in that song, but god it's pure; nothing remotely approaching a flat note.

Ahh, so that's where I'd heard that voice before; thank you Flame Lily FX! Here in the antipodes I don't think we ever heard a followup to I Don't Want a Lover, and I often wondered why such a great pop song could have been a one off.

I followed your other links but did as I always do and turned the volume up and left the room. The whole music video business sucks big time, designed as it is to distract us from what crappy songs they are foisting on us. Summer Son is a serviceable enough song, but utterly over-produced as though they were trying to hide her voice. It could hardly be distinguished. Why? That's the sort of soft core crap I'd expect from a soapie star who can't sing.

All The Times I Cried at least lets us hear that voice, despite the bullshit video. Between that song and Stop, I Don't Love You Anymore, plus I Don't Want a Lover, I'd like to hear from any better ears than mine who claim to be able to pick an even slightly flat note.

Edited to add I just watched I Don't Want a Lover four times in a row (which wasn't a trying task; on a scale of one to ten I'd definitely give her one) trying to remember whose mouth hers reminded me of. It finally came to me. Geena Davis!

(it's not that I'm obsessed with mouths or anything, it's just.....well.....) :O

28th Sep 2008, 10:30
Not a great fan of country music is Binos, but the previous mention of Johnny Cash leads me to post this song. (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ewSzN50JIqo)

There's no video to distract you, and to me it's one of those intriguing pieces of music that fits the voice perfectly, in this case late life Johnny Cash, the voice showing its age and experience and tired angst that the song demands. I love it!

This one keeps getting replayed on my car system when im by myself. Always liked the song but Melanies version brings out a deep feeling of lostness for me as I relate it totaly to my youngest daughter and her tumultuous (sic?) life :( Never saw the vid until tonight.

Oh, come on Mr Inchovit, you can't leave the younger generation hanging with just that titbit from the hippie chick we all fell in love with! The youngsters have gotta hear the song that brought her to prominence:

You can find it here (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=EfAqLGqg3WY&feature=related) kiddies, but again, no video.

Oh, those Edwin Hawkins singers! How I'd love to be in a baptist church hearing them belt it out.......

28th Sep 2008, 14:17
Yeah, me again. You know how it is, some nights you want to talk politics, other nights it's movies and then there's music. Tonight is music night and I'm loving it. Just can't find anybody to talk with me!

I've spent the last couple of hours going through every link posted on this thread with some great discoveries, thanks to all. At the same time I've got about ten great youtube links stored up tonight which I will release slowly, but I have to start somewhere, so it's going to be here. (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1yKgAEkCKxY)

I must have heard close to a thousand versions of Summertime, live and on disc, but I don't think anything comes close to this sublime version.

(If anyone similarly addicted to music wants to start up a correspondence by PM swapping suggestions, feel free).

I had that Fureys album with 'Sweet Sixteen' on vinyl once - great stuff.

War of the Worlds, too - what a blast from the past. Been in the collection for yonks, hadn't listened to it for a long time until just the other day when I played the CD in the car on a longish trip - first time my young sons had heard it, and they were most impressed. I didn't think they'd go for it, but when I switched it off after a few minutes, there was a chorus of "Turn it on again, Dad - what's going to happen with the Martians?!"
All the singers did such a good job on that album, not to mention Richard Burton's wonderful dramatic speaking performance.

Today's Binos' drip feed of interesting tracks comes from Stevie Nicks and Lindsy Buckingham (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=GXI4KinMOys)

I've seen romantic duets, but I've never seen one as heartbreaking as this, because we know it's all genuine. We know everybody in Fleetwood Mac was up everyone else at some stage, and these two were at the centre of it all. Stevie looking impossibly gorgeous, Lindsey looking devastated but still playing mighty fine guitar.

For some reason the clip goes for over 6 minutes but you can switch off after about 4 mins when the song finishes.

Rats! Sorry about that ShyTorque, the memory isn't what it used to be!

OK, how about this (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=lBlx1JffMQ4) one hit wonder? Maybe they were more than that in Switzerland but twenty ears on it still sounds as smooth as a gravy sandwich, especially the sixteen bars of instrumental in the middle.

That version is good too, but I do prefer the original, especially as it has a personal relevance.

A question has suddenly and mysteriously appeared in my poor tired brain.

Imagine for one minute that in a world less perfect than ours, there could be somebody so thoughtless of others' welfare that they would try to save a video clip featuring on YouTube, rather than having to use part of their download limit every time they wanted to hear the song.

I realise this is highly unlikely and feel deeply ashamed that the thought even entered my head, but let's treat it as a hypothetical. How would such horrible people go about achieving their criminal objective?

Of course I don't expect to receive any response here lest the person be wrongfully suspected of committing such an act him/herself. But I'm pretty easy to contact via PM. :hmm:

2nd Oct 2008, 15:50
Binos... don't hijack my thread!! := If in doubt of the intent, read the first post.

Find a dark corner in the back of some restaurant to discuss such hypotheticals! ;) :p

Mr B.click on the link
KeepVid: Download and save any video from Youtube, Dailymotion, Metacafe, iFilm and more! (http://keepvid.com/)

When you go to the clip on youtube you wish to record,on the right hand side you will see a box marked URL you need to highlight then copy this, you then click on the link one has thoughtfully provided, click in the space found there called URL then copy the link you previously got from youtube, then click download and bob yer thingy.

Oh yer before you do any of the above download a utility called VCL player and instalL this on yer machine, that will then play any clip you have stolen from youtube
PS just type VCLplayer into google seach and it will point you to where it can be downloaded from.

I occasionally make exceptions for women. I'm a deep-seated sexist at heart.

Mr D, reminds me of a joke, which I will have to do my best at typing out longhand at 2.20am.

Lone Ranger rides into town; Tonto, wait for me here, I'm going to have a drink in the saloon. OK, keemosabe (or whatever he was called)

LR gets sucked into a game of cards with a bottle of whisky. Someone reminds him of Tonto outside faithfully looking after the horses. Give him a drink and some food, says LR, wanting to get his money back.

The weather turns cold, and the LR goes outside, gives Tonto a flask of whisky and says if you get cold just run on the spot. As soon as I'm winning I'll be out and we'll get out of here.

Tonto is reduced after several hours to running on the spot to keep warm. A few more hours later, a local comes in and says "anybody her named the Lone Ranger?"

Yep, says LR.

"You left your injun running..."

CofF, Mr Hughes has good judgement. Let us hope that one day we are all there together sharing a drink and I have my own noise-proofed room to go to when we are finished talking shit. I look forward to it!

Foss...you always enlighten me to other tastes I'd never have known about otherwise. I'd never sneer at such...doubt that I'll add to future sales of a CD, but I listen to every youtube entry here because I've been introduced to music I would never have known about and expanding one's horizons is a big part of my goal here. And I feel its a great insight to an individual.

And, in this forum, to find a common ground with folks here....well, to coin a Dean Martin song..."ain't that a kick in the pants"? Yes...it is! :D ;)

I feel exactly the same way,C of F. I hope it goes forever and continues broadening my own perspective. Always felt anyone who loves music with a passion can't be all bad. It is what has kept me at a functioning level of sanity all these years, and I can't imagine a world without it.

Binos & HH..in addition to so many many other posts here...I've gotten to know people and found a common connection through music. How utterly cool is that? Music always finds a way to speak and connect.

Hell...next thing you know Airship and I might be sharing a bottle of wine?:confused: Well...that perhaps might be too much, but the thought is there!! (Airship...I never give up hope)

In the meantine folks....let's keep posting. Let's keep this thread as one that reminds, introduces and awakens.
