A multiple tragedy - with the $178m loss he could no longer afford one of his own designs....... relegated to riding a scooter...... and he never got over being given a girl's name of course.

This is a tragedy for the Pininfarina family, and for the company. Many drivers will have fond memories of cars designed by Pininfarina for many European manufacturers.

I passed my driving test in an Austin A40 Farina which they designed for BMC, and later had an Austin A60 Cambridge Countryman estate which served my family needs very well, and even had a bit of "style" about it. That was also a Pininfarina design - they certainly had a gift for adding a crisp Italian look to mass-produced family wagons, as well as the more exotic Ferraris, etc.
