Hi all. I am interested in applying for cabin crew with Monarch based at Birmingham. I can see from their website that they have current positions but I was wondering if anyone in the know could give idea of when/where assesment days would be held and if successful would you be taken on part way through the season or wait until summer??

Thanks

steppinout -

I'm not CC but I do work at MON. Temp CC are taken on for Summer and Winter contracts. Best advise I have is to apply and see what happens. Airlines never know one day to the next how man cc will be needed!

:confused:Can anyone answer the following question please. Upon successful application for Cabin Crew with Monarch where would you complete your initial training if you was to be BHX based. Are you required to stay in Luton for 4-5 weeks or is training conducted at the base you've applied for with practicals being under taken somewhere else?

I would be grateful for any information anyone can give. Many thanks for your help.;)

They would hold the training in bhx and you would go to luton to do your practical exams. :ok:

Good luck! its a really hard 4-5 weeks! but worth it:ok:

My daughter, who is 18 in January would like to join Monarch out of Manchester.
She is a fluent Spanish talker/writer, will that be of much help in her getting a position ?
I have flown with Monarch many times and always found them very professional, but what are thay like to work for.

Any tips on the interviewing process for my daughter would be of great help.

Thanks

I passed my interview with Monarch and I wonder how the training is, will they give any Manual to study before the training starts? or will they give me the Manual at start of the training?
Do we have exam every day? How many pax fit in Monarch Aircraft?

How hard is the training? It is very hard, isn’t it?
Thank you very much

Hi there,
im 18 in 3 months and im applying for Monarch cabin crew as soon as possible.
Im curious about a few things,
such as how strict they are on piercings, hair colour, make up, etc.
I have 2 piercings in each ear and my belly button, and my hair colour is platinum blonde. My make up can vary and im willing to do it how ever they ask.
Will any of the piercings be a problem?
And if i get accepted and want to be based in Manchester,
where will i have to do the training?

Anything else anyone can think of that might help me would be very very much appreciated!

Thanks everyone

I,ve been 2 the Assessment & Interview stage & I can tell u it was really easy than I thought it would of been.

It is quite along day,so prepare & bring a snack/lunch with you.:}
Talk about almost anything for they don,t not like silence potentials.:ugh:
Also mention as well that ur a good team player and work well within the team as well as on ur own.:ok:

As 4 visual presentation wear only 1 a set of earrings,ur belly button ring doesn,t matter (as long as u tell them that u have 1,coz I do & I did.)
Ur hair should only b in 1 color, they do not like the Joseph & the Technicolor Dream look.
Wear a smart suit(this they can see if u blend in well in their uniform)
Wear ur hair in a bun or a ponytail as this they see this again as ur hat is part of ur uniform as well & how it it would look.
But if ur hair is short then remember this wear it in a bob or a neat short hair cut/trim.

Prepare some question 4 them 2 answer like about pension schemes & holidays.:8
Other new ventures in the future that they may conduct inthe future.
(Like I did I discuss the new programme showing inthe UK called Celebair,i did the research & explain about the program in my interview regarding the they r the fore front of the show)

History of the business u MUST learn so that they know that u have potential of learning about the business & at least u know something about them regardless old or new news.

ALWAYS smile & be pleasant, have patients as well, get to know the other applicants within the same day, learn thier names(even 4 the day)also learn the recruiters names as well as they would b the 1's that ur with thruout the day.:O

At this point all I can say that I hope my feedback as helped u &
GOOD LUCK.:D

Take care.

P.s. Have fun & relax don,t dominate any conversation,give other members a chance 2 speak.:=

Things would go well then.:D

Thankyou very much Keanna!
Definitely helped alot.
Im hoping i get accepted for an interview, i'll be devastated if i don't.
Im just going to have to sort out my ear piercings some how...as they're not what you'd call normal earrings :O
But i have an idea which im hoping will work!

Once again, thanks every so much! :ok:

Hi there,

I received an informal offer from Monarch last week, after a successful interview. Subject to satisfactory criminal record checks & character references, they'll then make a formal offer.

Has anyone a rough idea of how long it takes for these checks to be completed?

Many thanks,

SP

Your contract is also subject to satisfactory completion of training. Don't worry too much about the fact that you have only received an "informal" offer of employment. This is just protocol. You should get a contract on your first day of employment once most of the bureaucracy has been completed.

As far as I can remember, when you are made an offer of employment by Monarch you will be expected to attend an Administration Day approx. 2-3 weeks or so before your official start date. You will be advised what it is you will need to bring with you beforehand. You will be required to fill out details of 5 years of employment and address history. Apart from Monarch wanting to check previous employment references, this is primarily for you to get a security pass so that you can freely access those areas necessary at the airport.

Normally, you can expect to have your airport pass ready on either the first or second day of starting, I know that at the base where I am you will require this pass for you to be able to access the staff car park as well. However, there are always people that there are problems with and who have some problem or other with references. Monarch will let you know if there are any problems and ask you to chase these up.

As a word of advice, prepare all of your references. They will want exact dates with NO gaps in between. Be sure to have these ready. Moreover, you will also have to apply for your Disclosure Scotland. This is something that everyone at the airport must apply for to show they have had no criminal convictions in the past 5 years. Apply for this well in advance as it can take up to 6 weeks (but normally much quicker), and you can easily apply for this on-line as you will only require a Basic Disclosure. If you haven't already had one, then I would strongly suggest you get a yellow fever vaccination as well as this will be required of you and can be quite a difficult thing to arrange around work, and sometimes difficult to get hold of. You may well have to pay for this, but keep hold of your receipt as I think you can claim a refund.

Many thanks for that info.

I'll be based in Dublin, and the letter didn't give any clue as to who or how the criminal record checks are carried out - certainly a Disclosure Scotland wasn't mentioned at all. The letter gave the distinct impression that Monarch would instigate these checks - but if they do expect me to go about it myself, they didn't say so on the letter. Maybe it's a different set-up for Dublin?

I'll try ringing Monarch recruitment to get clarification on that issue. All that reference info paperwork was brought to the interview on the day, so they have all that stuff.

Had the yellow fever vaccination done two years ago, but will check to see if I require a booster or not.

Thanks again,

SP

I guess Dublin is different for security checking then. I'm sure the base manageress at Luton will be more familiar with the security screening procedure at Luton for Monarch employees than anyone else.

I believe the Yellow Fever vaccination lasts 10 years after 10 days of having the vaccination.

If you have ever lived/worked in the UK for more than 6 months (im not 100% sure on that so someone may want to correct me on this) then you will need to get a disclosure Scotland otherwise you wont as they wont have any information on you so it will be pointless. AS far as Im aware the DAA require a 10 year background check on you for their security purposes, they seem to be much stricter than other airport authorities. Instead of a Disclosure Scotland you will need to get Garda vetting which is pretty easy to get and Im sure Monarch will help you out with this. Also you will probably need to get vetting from any country which you have lived/worked in for more than 6 months(again I may be wrong on the length of time).

The ID department at Dublin Airport can be a bit of a nightmare at times especially when working for an English company based there as the rules in England are different to the rules here but once you have all your references well sorted then it shouldnt be too much of a problem.

Best of luck and I hope you love the job!! Iv heard Monarch in Dublin are a great group to work for as its quite a small amount of crew there so its almost like a little family!!!

Many thanks for the hints, they're very useful..I'll contact Monarch anyway this week, to see what the situation is. Found my vaccination document and noticed that my yellow fever vaccination lasts until 2016 (thankfully - that was a little more painful than some of the others, as far I can remember)..

Yes, from what I can gather, it seems to be a successful operation in Dublin - am really looking forward to getting started. I heard somewhere that some of the training may be carried out in Dublin, and the SEP training at Luton - so if anyone has any additional info on that, let me know.

Thanks again for the information guys, very much appreciated!

Hi everyone.

Iv been offered an interview for MON at the DUB base. I am currently flying for another airline. I'm trying to decide whether to go for the interview or not. As an airline I have always really liked Monarch from flying loads with them as a kid and always though would love to work for them. But I am unsure of whether to leave my current airline or not. But I have been hearing little tit bits about Monarch really expanding in Dublin which intrigues me. So basically im just wonering if anyone could give me any low down on the base and what they are like to work for as a company and stuff that could help with my choice. I don't like changing jobs and stuff though have a feeling monarch may be worth it!!!

Really appreciate it guys and happy flying :)

if you have a secure job with your present airline I would be very wary of accepting a job with Monarch in Dublin as they have a habit of opening and closing bases on a whim! There is only one maybe two aircraft based there at the moment
Having said that I believe promotion can be very quick as it is a small expanding base at the moment.

Hi all,
I recently attended an interview for MAN base and have received a letter saying I'm successful and they will send me a start date with 4 weeks notice. :O This is great but so far I really dont know much about pay/roster etc!! If anyone's able to give my any info I'd be really interested to know:

Salary - basic for seasonal crew, plus average take-home p/m over the summer?
Duty pay - how much is this?!
Roster - What kind of trips/aircraft can I expect at MAN, will it be just A320/1 or is there a chance of longhaul in my first season on the A300/330??

And the big question.. what is the likelihood of being kept on come October? this is quite a biggie for me as I'm in a permanent (but not very exciting) contract at the moment.. but if theres no chance but a chance of coming back next summer I'll prob go for it?

And one more!... I actually have a holiday booked for 2weeks mid-march.. now I know I might have a problem here.. can anyone help with an idea of when the training course might start?? I've heard april for a may start but I've also heard it might be as early as march?? which means I may need to think about cancelling my hol :ugh:

Anything you guys can tell me would be appreciated.. sorry if this in the wrong section
cheers guys x

Hi Guys

Is anybody applying to Monarch/going to a Monarch interview soon? I have not read anything for ages about Monarch recruitment on this forum. Just wondered if there were any jobs this year.

Thanks. :)

I would have thought they would be running new crew cources for summer 09 BUT I wouldnt hold my breath, however if new cources are held you will only get a temp contract (6 months) after that I doubt you will get a perm contract with them. Lots of crew from LGW, LTN, BHX have all just been layed off and many rumours are flying around the company about the airline ie making job cuts, route cuts etc
My advise to you is apply to gatwick or manchester if you really want monarch, you get more variety of routes and maybe some longhaul but dont expect to get a perm contract because if im honest I dont think the company will be keeping any new crew on until the financial situation is over.
Unlike other bigger airlines like Thomas Cook and Thomson, Monarch dont have the back up of a tour operator ie Thomas Cook Holidays, Thomson Holidays (apart from cosmos) so where the other airlines have a BIG brand with many areas not just an airline Monarch are not as big in that respect.
What ever you decide good luck
:ok:

Hi Guys

I need some advice.

I applied to both Monarch (LGW) and Jet2.com (MAN) and got both positions. Both contracts are temp!
I have been told that Jet2.com will be very busy over the next winter season so it looks like I will most probably get a permanent contract at the end of the summer. I have also heard that its very difficult to get a permanent contract with Monarch but not impossible.
Monarch is my preferred airline but in the current climate I want to take the best bet to get a permanent contract.

Guys what are the pros and cons of the 2 airlines?

I'm so happy to have the choice as I had been made redundant from Silverjet last year.

HELP

Accept both, work for the airline who offers you a course first, by all accounts Monarch can take six months to give you a course !!

You can then get a feel for which ever airline you start with and as you know once you are around flying people you get hear the gossip !!

congrats by the way, I worked for Monarch for 5 years, it was great fun till I joined the big boys !!

Cheers mate

I worked for the big boys and left in 2007.
Didn't like BA was not the airline for me, too big! As you said ya get a feel for the airline as soon as you start.
I don't know much about how charter airlines operate their temp contracts.
Is there a chance you clould get kept on after your first season at LGW with ZB???

I'm on my jet2.com course now. ZB called me 2 days ago to offer me a course on the 15th May!

Hi, since you have worked for Monarch you may be able to help me..please.... Ive been offered training day for BMI LHR which is an hour away and M25 but also got an interview with Monarch at LGW which is easy driving, no motorways and half an hour away. Interview is ten days before training starts with BMI. Should I even consider Monarch or just be grateful I have training date for BMI? Both are fixed contract but BMI are saying most likely a chance to be offered permanent at end. Just think could get fed up with motorway especially for standbys. Obviously havent even been offered Monarch yet as just at interview stage.... help:confused:

I spent 10 years with bmi and it was the biggest mistake leaving. I wish I was still there!!
Hope this helps.
bmi is the most probable bet for getting a perm contract too.

2, What on average is the take home pay for temp crew ?

Many thanks for your help with these .
