Is there such a thing as a freeware hit-counter that does not come with unwanted baggage like advertising etc?

I just want to record hits on a website with no other complications. Any ideas?

Try Beseen (http://www.beseen.com/hitcounter/index.html)

All they ask is that you provide a button linking to LookSmart. They don't throw ads on the screen, but I guess they may in the future - there are no promises! See also their Ts&Cs (http://www.beseen.com/legal/terms.html) and faq (http://www.beseen.com/hitcounter/FAQ.html)

I use www.digits.com. (http://www.digits.com.) Sometimes they shut down offering new free counters for a while, but they were open for free business last time I looked.

Do you want CGI, Java for your own site or do you want another site to do the counting?

I'd far prefer to have our own site do the counting.

Sorry, I'm not the techie, java is an island in the far east to me!

digits looks good, but is there anything else in case the techie does not like it?
Thanks!

Hit counters are passe

If you have a good stats program, you can see the hits by hits or page hits each month.
