Hi,

This question has been on the back of my mind for years, do airlines ever cut corners on maintenance?

Do airlines ever cut corners by using non-Boeing/Airbus parts? i.e. counterfeit?

I was wondering how do airlines manage to pay for maintenance when they are going through such a tough time with fuel costs so high?

How do the low-cost carriers pay for maintenance?

Are most crashes due to the poor maintenance of aircraft or using faulty parts?

I would be very interested in different people's opinions!

Thank you.

Nick

Wow, you are full of questions at the moment!

Thankfully these days in Europe and America deliberate and illegal corner cutting on maintenance is very rare. The is no evidence either to suggest that the maintenance conducted by the low cost carriers is any worse than that of the full fare ones. Usually airlines simply go bust rather than try and get away with safety breaches.

In other parts of the world it can be a different story though. :E
