Over India last night heard Emirates divert to Hyderabad with engine failure. Anyone have any details on how they went, aircraft type etc.? Sounded like they had work cut out with ATC.

An Emirates flight from Bangkok bound for Dubai made an emergency landing at Begumpet Airport at Hyderabad in the early hours of this morning following an engine problem.
The Boeing 777, overflying Indian territory, had to be diverted to Hyderabad for an emergency landing following the technical snag, the Press Trust of India (PTI) quoted airport officials as saying.
None of the 350 passengers on board the aircraft was injured, according to the PTI.
Thats 2 engine failures on the 200. Too much weight to power??

... it was not a 200 but a B777-300, A6-EMP. The first was also a -300, A6-EMM !

The previous case took place in MEL and a lot of info quickly surfaced in the media. This time it seems no one really knows what actually happened. The only info is the the aircraft will remain on the ground for a while. And both cases involved the Trent 895, the most powerful version of the Trent 800 family. Rolls had better hope it's not the same fan blade problem that they claimed they have solved. Perhaps the hotter conditions that EK aircraft often operate under might have contributed to EK's problems, just a pure guess.

The rumour is that the engine was shut down after excessive vibration, loss of oil quantity and assumed low oil pressure. NOTHING to do with a fan blade seperation.

Hi Folks
I can confirm a definate loss of oil pressure on the #2 engine, followed by a seizure of the N3. Diverted and landed on rwy 27 (2768m)at HYD, the very latest EK destination. A fresh Boeing crew touched down today aboard A330 on regular service to conduct test flight and ferry back. Antonov freighter sitting alongside B777 on apron, with much activity around the new RR pod. With some luck, the 777 should be backin DXB very soon.

Well done to the Emirates Crew.
So how will this affect ETOPS certification.
See in FI a few weeks ago Boeing were pushing for four hours.
