IMHO get rid of the intro page - 'Enter Site' etc is still considered naff. If you want visitors in your site, don't put another barrier in the way.

Consider a few small piccies, but don't overdo it.

Like the news pages and opening in a new window, but how many new windows could be opened at once?

Have a look at http://www.aspect2000.co.uk. Respect your comments as well.

Where in York are you? Used to live at Copmanthorpe.

Cheers

Pistonbroke,

Cheers for the comments. I'll take them on board. I liked your site it was visually effective yet quick to load. I live in Fulford but I'm soon going to be moving nearer to Market Weighton.

Small world, isn't it? My grandfather was born down Hospital Fields Road, my wife worked at Imphal, and I worked out of the traffic offices of the nick next door (the old Cavalry stables.) ;-)

I tried to look at it and critique it for you - but the site was blocked by our "National Firewall" due to "inappropriate content".

I also tried to go to my daughter's site (a small family-run roofing busines on the South Coast, www.podestaroofing.freeserve.co.uk (http://www.podestaroofing.freeserve.co.uk) ) which is also hosted on freeserve and that was blocked as well http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/frown.gif

Looks like our Moral Guardians out here have decided that there's too much bad content on freeserve sites and blocked the whole thing as there's nothing "inappropriate" on my daughter's company site - I designed it for her and the only graphics are pictures of roofs and wall cladding :)

Ready access from the UK, no problem. Your firewall may include such things as NetNanny or CyberPatrol: these tend to be very good at blocking inappropriate content, but aren't foolproof.

We tried one that even blocked BBC News because of the likely violence content (some viewers may find this disturbing).

Just shows that IT, ratings, firewalls etc. will never be perfect.

Matelot,

Check my profile and you'll see why I'm behind a national firewall! It's much stricter than any Net Nanny!!

I did mail the "guardians" and point out that most sites on freeserve are innocuous, but had no reply so far - we'll see if I get an answer and if freeserve gets "unblocked"
