View Full Version : Rotax 912 914 Engines

Do any Type Certificated Aircraft use these engines and if they do what are the implications for engine overhaul and inspection? There doesn't appear to be any official qualifications or courses for these engines!

The Diamond Katana does.

They are great engines. I've had 2 aircraft with them.:)

Hi,

At Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, there is an aircraft tht uses this engines. The motorglider is the Ximango. IŽll try to get some specific information about Rotax maintence intervals.

I had overlooked the Diamond Katana. What do you do about engine overhaul and maintenance? What qualifications does your engineer need to sign the aircraft out as there doesn't appear to be any official courses for these engines.

These engines are commonly used in LSA's. The 912S 100 hp is a lovely piece of machinery.

Look up the Rotax Owners group, or any of the Rotax authorised distributors.

I'm sure Rotax (based in Austria) do run engineer courses. From memory the Diamond distributor was based at Gamston airfield.

Both Rotaxes I have owned have been in Europa aircraft. They were the 912 U/L versio which is non-certified, and available for use in permit aircraft and microlights.

Conrad Beale is recomended for engineering work on the 912 U/L ( and indeed the 912s and 914 versions). His father, Nigel, runs Skydrive- the Rotax agent for the UK ( and Eire and Iceland apparently !)

Three things not required in a light aircraft: Liquid coolant, A gearbox, A wheelbarrow. Nuff said.
