I'm off to Goodyear airport for flight training in September. Doen anyone know what the best accomodation is near the airport. Would like an apartment with swimming pool.

What else is there to do out there?

There are alot of apartment complex's around the area, Versante being one. You will need a car, but the rent is very cheap compared to the UK.

As far as what to do.........not much. You will end up finding you can spend many happy hours sitting round the pool and reading this site.

Yes, I booked a rental car. Had a look at Versante apartments. Looks good. Are they in good area?

The Twin Lakes community is also close by and fairly cheap, with the added bonus that students aren't allowed to overfly the town.

Hi David, Twin Lakes community looks like a retirement village?

I phoned Versante apartments and they have a minimum stay of 4 months...

I'm now looking into getting a condo or house nearby as a 'vacation rental' otherwise you dont get furniture included.

Any other places to stay?

I rented a house when my Wife came out to stay and there were several good sites with local properties.

If you are intending to hire a car I would recommend Cheap Car Hire Excess Insurance | Insurance4carhire.com (http://www.insurance4carhire.com) and the local Hertz (in the Goodyear Ford dealership) does cracking deals.

Search for Goodyear and Avondale as both are close to the airport. You can go further afield but there are roadworks on the I-10 currently so you may not want to risk traffic.

EchoKiloEcho,

You state your location as Surrey, U.K. Would it be presumptious of me to think that you might be doing some modular training with OAA at GYR. The alternative would be Angel Air if it's FAA stuff but they don't have a facility to arrange visas.

If you are working with an FTO out there they will be able to either arrange accomodation for you or else recommend something to suit your budget.

I think the 'Twin Lakes' community that David Horn refers to is actually Estrella Mountain Ranch community about 6nm SW of the airfield; entirely residential although you might be able to find a room or house for rent short term; with the current economic climate there are plenty of empty properties about.

Might look like a retirement village from the air but it's actually pretty nice. I believe one of the examiners lives there (hence the reason why students can't overfly the place...).

Several of my friends on the course rented a house there between them for several months and the quality is incredible for the money. On the other hand, you can't beat rolling out of bed at 3.30am with only a 5 minute walk to the crew room if you stay on-site. ;)
