Hey there, I was wondering if anyone could advise me as to which would be a good camera to use on a flight deck, any models you can recommend?

Things like, other planes passing by, or getting photos of me looking awesome that I can spam other people with :}.

I'm not really after a DSLR or superzoom SLR-type camera, something smallish that doesn't take up much space would be great.

I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ1 which I chose for its small size (it can fit in your trouser pocket), it has a 5 megapixels and most importantly a 10 x optical zoom.

I believe the current model is the TZ3 - I would suggest you google it and have a look.

Have used the Sony T9 for the last few years without problems and it really fits in a shirt pocket and takes great photos. It has been superceded (as always) by i think the T70. Of course it doesn't compare to a DSLR camera, but i too wanted a camera that you could carry in a pocket and take advantage of spontaneous moments. It even films to a passable standard....

It has allowed me to capture some wonderful images that i would've missed had i had to rummage around in a camera bag and seek the DSLR out. With a memory stick of 1,2,4 or even 8GB you can really capture loads of shots/films. At least more than is necessary!

Slight catch 22 ..... I would say.

My personal preference would be to suggest a small Nikon DSLR and their very versatile snapshot 18-200 lens.

I see topbunk came up with the Panasonic, which looks interesting as far as compacts go.

Relatively rare wide angle/fab 3 inch screen; great little camera.

Get yourself a used Nikon from Ebay or London Camera.

The E8700 and E8800 have good zoom lenses for air to air: the drawback is that everything is menu driven rather than via a control on top. If you want speed of change to settings, the Olympus C700 series are pretty good too.

The current Lumix is the TZ5 which also has 10 optical zoom - 28 to 280 mm, huge screen in the back and HD-Video (1280x720 30fps).

My brother took great pictures with full zoom with it - though nothing moving.

I'll try the Sony W-150 for myself. 5x optical (30-150) plus it still got a viewer. I figure that's important if you want to catch something small(airplane) moving in something big (sky). I should get it any day now... let's see how the pictures will come out...

For a sure bet - Canon has constantly great cameras.

Recently bought a Lumix DMC-FZ18, factory refurb, off eBay.

Pleased with it - see dpreview as suggested.
