Apart from the congested airspace over Hamiltron, it looks like new EASA regulations will require all CTC instructors to have JAA instructors ratings to train JAA pilots. Flight International names CTC New Zealand as one of the offshore training academys to be affected

Who would be hit by Europe's new pilot training rules? (http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2008/07/09/225172/who-would-be-hit-by-europes-new-pilot-training-rules.html)

mattyj,
I'd say a lot of schools in Australia are getting very nervous about this also. Particularly one large WA based organisation that has sold it's soul to the devil and put all its eggs in the JAR basket.

It will never happen. The Europeans don't have enough airspace or infrastructure to train the students who live there. The idea of being able to import more students as the article would suggest, (to academies in Europe), is laughable given the costs.

I say let them have the bilateral rights and see how many Americans go to France or Germany to learn to fly, given the weakness of the US dollar.

Most Americans can't even afford the drive to the beach, let alone flight training in Europe.

The majority of instructors at CTC are JAA qualified.

The majority JAA qualified? Do they have JAA instructor licences? Really?

They're qualified to teach JAA, they're not true 'JAA instructors'.

They're probably more worried about DeathStar reliability for now. :}
