With the price of oil going up and up, Australian aviation companies a worried about staying profitable. My question is how do foreign airlines with much higher fuel prices and overheads in general manage to charge very similar fares that ones charged in Oz? Not just for domestic flights but international also. I mean BA, KLM etc all charge very similar prices for a round trip to or from Oz

100 octane unleaded is $0.17/lt in the UAE. I'm pretty sure Emirates are ok with the price they get for the golden stuff.

And they charge virtually the same for a ticket than everyone else does?

That is, i suspect how the staff get a big fat bonus at the end of every year. Someone on prune quoted around USD 10K.

One day all airlines will be called Emirates!

BA are charging Syd - London for $879 + $1050 in taxes and surchages. Me thinks they are not coping well!

Seems like the price of oil is falling with predictions that it could go below $100 a barrel by the end of the year.

Let's hope this means an improvement in the jobs front for the industry.

quote "100 octane unleaded is $0.17/lt in the UAE"

just curious, don't they (emirates) still have to pay the same price as other airlines when they fill up at their overseas destinations?

and does that mean airlines flying into the UAE also only pay these cheaper amounts?

Can anyone answer Garman's question?
I am damned curious too! It seems like the Arabs have us by the balls when it comes to fuel prices.
There has to be an Aussie pilot in Emirates not afraid of being stoned to death on the main street for telling us the secret.
But than again....
