Was wondering what's the go with the impressive B747-200, with side by side engines (B52 engine pylon'd engines and additional fuel tanks on #1 + 4 pylons) as seen on the VW ad on TV? Either a lot of expense on doing up an old 747 for the VW ad, or pretty clever computer graphics. They have even plonked numerous airline logos on side of fuselage as if being snapped up by numerous airlines.

gotta say, its well done.

Originally modified for Bond film Casino Royale.

Lives at Dunsfold Park airfield (home of the best show on tv - Top Gear and has featured in TG)

Aerospaceweb.org | Ask Us - Boeing 747 in Casino Royale (http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/planes/q0297.shtml)

Disclaimer - not an anorak - saw it on Top Gear (aforementioned best show on TV and was curious)

It's been done to death on PPRuNe a couple of years ago (just after the Bond film came out). Just use the search facility. And maybe take a look at the DVD of the flim. Then again I'm sure there are some bits & pieces of it on Youtube.

Funny that, coincidentally I was googling it yesterday, and that was from seeing the ad too! (After seeing it on TG a few times).

Could that work anyway? Fuel pods where 1 and 4 engines usually are, and a double pylon for engines (1 thru 4) where 2&3 are? Disregard this, Seen the B-52 :ok:

(I remember on the last TG ep they used a Virgin atlantic 744 to blow cars away behind it, wondered why they didn't use the in-house 742:ugh::ok:)

Gawd, just how far behind the UK is Australia showing Top Gear? That was made yonks ago. It's even made the re-run Sky channels...

Sure, works great. I whacked one together with my kid's scout troop last week. Give it a go!

Egad 747's already carry far too much fuel, why would you want to add more?

Fly around the world a few times? make a detour to the cheap fuel and fill up the tanks for the rest of the journey?

Mid air refuelling of fighter jets?
