that's I found on webpage "Epic Aviation has an agreement with a flight academy in Europe to conduct your JAA Conversion. This will include your Frozen ATPL Written Exam, and CPL Check ride"

the wording "CPL Check ride" I don't like, because it is definatelly not a JAA wording. JAA use word "CPL skill test" and "Check ride" is typically FAA word :)

I have not found this school on UK CAA webpage as approved school. I also asked this school about some information and never got answer...:ugh:

will be great to read somebody's experience @Epic, would like to know how it is ;)

Hi acuba

This is the e-mail i recieved , doesen“t sound bad, have to do a little more research.

It is my pleasure to drop you an email from the Admissions department from Epic Aviation. Epic Aviation is the leader in International Flight training and has been setting the pace for over 10 years. We have students from over 30 countries and would love to extend an invitation to Germany.Epic Aviation is an International Cessna Pilot Center rated first place out of 325 pilot centers around the world, flying the absolute best aircraft. At Epic we have an impeccable safety record and will never compromise on your safety, infact we have added onboard traffic avoidance radar (The ability to see other planes in the air and it notifies you if one if coming too close to you), and also weather radar to each plane in our fleet.

We have a fleet of 32 brand new aircraft. These include Cessna 172SP models with traffic and weather radar, autopilot and more. Over twelve in that fleet are Cessna 172SP with G1000 Glass cockpit. We also offer Diamond DA-42 and Beech Duchess BE-76. We have two brand new Frasca G-1000 glass cockpit simulators with another state of the art 220 Degree True-Flight Wraparound, (One of the only in the area) one on its way. The aircraft that you train on play an incredible role in the level of training you receive. This is the Take a look under the hood, We would love to show you are aircraft, please visit the following link: http://www.epicflightacademy.com/flight_school_aircraft_fleet/flight_school_aircraft_fleet.htm (http://service.gmx.net/de/cgi/derefer?TYPE=3&DEST=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.epicflightacademy.com%2Fflight_school_ aircraft_fleet%2Fflight_school_aircraft_fleet.htm)

There is much more to a flight school than just the training. At Epic we are a family, form the day you apply you are part of the Epic Family. Let us roll out the red carpet for you. From your arrival to the airport we personally pick you up, hand you our keys to your accommodation, and already have your FAA medical scheduled. We personally take your fingerprints in-house and take you to the store to purchase your laptop and prepaid cellular. No stone is left unturned and no worries for you. In addition to your incredible flight training, we offer you monthly activities that are especially for you. We have gone to places like Kennedy Space Center (NASA), Universal Studios Florida, Disney World, Carnival Cruise to the Bahamas, Bowling, and much more. View the recent pictures are: http://www.epicflightacademy.com/flight_student_pilot_local_life/flight_student_local_life_activities.htm (http://service.gmx.net/de/cgi/derefer?TYPE=3&DEST=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.epicflightacademy.com%2Fflight_student _pilot_local_life%2Fflight_student_local_life_activities.htm )
At Epic we understand you are here working hard to accomplish your dream and we are here to help you with that 100%. Over 85 graduates from Epic Aviation in the last year alone. Epic has an incredible placement record. Simply speak to our graduates.
We have graduates hired with the following and more:
American Eagle
Pinnacle
Masa Airlines
PSA
Comair
Air Wisconsin
Chautauqua Airlines
Express Jet
Jet Airways
Spice Jet
Air India
Kingfisher
And..more

At Epic we understand that you want to complete your training in the shortest amount of time and make it to the right seat of the jet and start making a great living. And it is our job to take you there. Epic will do this by its guaranteed fixed price program. Epic has created the guaranteed fixed price program to take the worries of flight training away from you. When you flight train there are two big worries, how much will this training cost me and how long with this training take. Well the first part is $57,990.00 we have our rate locked in. This price includes your PPL, Instrument, CPL Single Engine, and CPL Multi Engine. And 265 hours total. Also included is your $800 administrative application fee, your $390 TSA fees, the $74 Fingerprint fee, an aviation headset, housing and transportation for the duration of your training, your CAA RT license, your FAA Medical, all your books, Maps, Charts, approach plates, all your flight time, oral lessons, Ground Schools, progress checks, FAA written exams, FAA Check rides, and more. It's all included. You will not find terms like fuel surcharge here.

Do you want to live in your own housing, no problem; this reduces your total program by $3300. Funding for your program can be done in many ways. If you are a US Citizen you can receive a loan from www.slmfinancial.com (http://service.gmx.net/de/cgi/derefer?TYPE=3&DEST=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.slmfinancial.com) and select a career training loan. You can pay your full amount on your arrival, or pay it in 5 equal installments.

Infact with 32 aircraft and 43 flight instructors we assure your progress, our instructors have no more than 4 students. Because lets face it, if your instructor has 4 students and schedules 4 two hour sessions a day that is an 8 hour day for him. And we are able to schedule you daily for flight or ground time. With a guaranteed fixed price program if it takes you longer to train, it costs us money not you. So guaranteed it is our job to maintain your progress. Additionally in a time when aviation training is booming, Epic has downsized its enrollment to provide the absolute best training to each and every student. We have created Epic Elite CPL Training Program; the next batch will start in July 2008. This is an entirely new program, One on One Training. What does this mean to you? Faster progression! Hurry and join the newest batch Epic Elite CPL Training program July 2008.

Additional Upcomming Start Dates: (Reserving Now)
July 14
August 18
September 22
October 27
December 1

Are you ready to secure your training date? Simply complete an online application and forward the administrative deposit of $800.

Beware of schools that refuse to follow a guaranteed program. They will show you prices based on the FAA minimums, for example the FAA requires 35 hours for your PPL and many schools will show you a price on this, when they are well aware that the national average is 75 hours. They also will not mention the term fuel surcharge, this is a term that they use after they show you a guaranteed rate on our aircraft rental and then once you start renting the aircraft they add a $27 per hour fuel surcharge to the rate. Because $27 per hour for 250 hours will cost you an additional $6750. At Epic we do not do this and have built our reputation on our integrity an honesty.
Also they do not monitor the number of flight instructors they have, they may also tell you the program is 10 to 12 months. The reason for this is simple, if your flight instructor has 10 students it is impossible for you to now fly daily, infact you will only be able to fly 2 times a week out of 7. Now what happens when Mother Nature comes in and you get rained out one day? If you are only flying one or two days per week, you will require half of your training to be review of what you did before because you will have forgotten things over the week. What this means to you, is instead of finishing your PPL in 55 hours you are going to finish in 90 to 100. It is more profit for the school so why would they choose to do a guaranteed program. A very good example would be a student that just transfered to Epic from another school, his instructor had 21 students, and he had not flown in 41 days. This caused him to spend just over $60,000 for his PPL alone. This is why you want an all inclusive fixed price, no hiddens, no surcharges, this is what Epic Aviation provides.

Click the link below and complete the online application and then click submit, on the next page click the credit card icon in the middle of the page and this will forward you to our online checkout where you can pay the $800 administrative fee with your credit card. I will secure your seat and create your I-20, I-901 and Letter of acceptance immediately for you.

They are not JAA approved, they offer FAA training like (almost) every other US school.

If you look at the bottom of the JAA page it tells you that you go over to Europe to convert and that the cost of conversion to JAA is not included in the price, so your 57,990 dollars gets you an FAA ticket and nothing else.

Regards D-G

acuba 290
2nd Jul 2008, 15:50
well, agree 100% with previous post. Typical FAA school, nothing special, has nothing to do with JAA. Conversion means to do it in Europe and pay lots of money. Why not do it straight with some JAA schools (approved by UK CAA) in Florida like OBA etc...;)

andili
2nd Jul 2008, 16:05
but which flight school is a good jaa flight school in the us??

Dane-Ger
2nd Jul 2008, 16:15
do a search here on "Ormond Beach", "Naples air centre", "European Flight Training" and "Orlando flight training". Then get make a full pot of coffee and sit back for a good few hours of reading.

As for which one is the best, that is a never ending question. I'm sure they all have their good and bad points. Personally I've changed my mind about 6 times over which one I will choose (that's not including all the options in Europe that I've looked at either!).

Good luck

Regards D-G

EDIT - but remember you can't do a JAA IR in USA, you have to convert the american one over here.

acuba 290
2nd Jul 2008, 20:35
...or you can do some JAA IR training, must be JAA instructor and simulator, but in any case IR skill test is possible only in one of the JAA states

Thanks a lot for pointing that one out. It is indeed hard to navigate through all the scam schools out there. I was considering myself going Epic, even talked to them on the phone today.

cyrilroy21

I think those planning on coming to epic should see this review too

Here's the link Epic Aviation reviews and pilot ratings for Epic Aviation flight school in FL New Smyrna Beach, United States (http://www.flightschoolreviewer.com/United-States/FL---New-Smyrna-Beach/epic-aviation)

I'll just copy and paste the content

Come and see for yourself
I am a student at epic aviation currently

I joined in 2009 .

There was a time when epic charged
between 39000 and 42000 dollars for the fixed price program

It wasnt sustainable for them to be in business for that kind of money since oil cost $147 a barrel

Either they charged the students more or they had to shut down and the students to find another school somewhere else without getting their money back

Which do you think was better ?

Today the fixed price program costs me $57,598
and no i dont pay the entire money upfront i only pay in 5 equal monthly installments

I also paid a $500 housing deposit which is refundable as long as i dont damage anything in the housing provided

I can opt to stay out their housing should i wish and they will only charge $54,300 for the fixed price program

And yes they profit from it . Which means they will still be business . They had to fire employees in order to cut their costs as well deduct salaries

It really is a great flying school . With a fun environment and one of the best maintained fleet available .

Although i must admit their multi engine aircraft was in the maintenance for longer than usual
But they are planing to lease a couple of new piper seminole with glass cockpits so that students finish their training on time

Now about the negative reviews on Epic Aviation

A select few students who probably has never seen the word CLEAN in their dictionary were kicked out of the housing

That's because they broke the rules of the housing agreement that they signed
They totally trashed the housing...
The living conditions were totally horrible...
You would puke on the spot if you see it for yourself...

And there is more than just a stain on the rug . There are only irreparable stains on the rug . The rugs are 85% stains and the rest visible carpet .

Now epic aviation has to replace them at their own expense or else they will lose their contract with Ocean Oaks which affect the rest of the students staying at Ocean Oaks

Its good thing that they were kicked out otherwise epic would lose its contract with ocean oaks and all the rest of us would be kicked out to find housing for ourselves

The other reviewers about epic aviation seems to have forgotten to mention about the cause that started this whole thing about being kicked out

There was party that took place at Ocean Oaks apartment 1622 on March 20th 2009
As per the agreement signed by its students
they broke the following violations
1. No parties
2. Underage drinking
3. No smoking inside the house
4. Cop Involvement

Somebody called the cops and they came not once but TWICE . They were lucky that they werent arrested .

And after all these violations you expect epic to still keep those who violated the rules within their housing .

ABSOLUTELY NO !!!

I would call epic idiots if they continued to let those students live over there....
All this was despite epic sending a notice that they will be performing surprise inspections at their housing .

Sure come to ocean oaks and find out for yourself what happened to these students .
Ask the Ocean Oaks management and its workers about it . They will tell you the truth

These guys really dont deserve to sit in the cockpit of an aircraft or an airline .

They were lucky that epic didnt kick them out of their program for violating the rules and regulations

These students who you see online represent only 1/10 of the students at epic

The best students finish the program in 6 months some take 7 others 8 or 9 .
Thats cause different people learn at different speeds . We are not all created the same

Some students take more than a year . Thats because they dont study on time and simply keep postponing their classes and come to class without studying anything despite repeated instructions to study and come

Some students that were kicked out of their housing failed their written test more than once

I mean c'mon.....
The questions are given the answers are given and you guys still cant study ....

You need to find another career....

The reason i am putting this review out here is so that future students who plan on coming here are not mislead by a bunch of students who are determined to take revenge on epic by posting
negative reviews out here inorder to give epic a bad name

Remember they represent less than 1/10 th of the students at epic .

I do hope that i given the truth out here

I will be posting a review of my experience here at epic once i am done with my commercial

Whenever you ask someone for an opinion on a topic never make your descion on one person's opinion alone . Get the other side of the story too.
Ask as many as possible

P.S : I am a student at epic and not from its management . I came to epic after considering various reviews about it online and with past students who attended there .
Somebody please post atleast a link of this review on pprune.org

Well does anyone have anything else to say ?:ok::D

Fair enough...

I do agree with the fact that u should indeed get more than one opinion on the matter. I would still consider Epic if they would give me JAA though. Since they only go FAA doesn't quite cut it for me.

I do understand what your saying and it also a good review on Epic Training,

but as you see the Review of this person actually posted the letter from the president of epic to THE ENTIRE STUDENTS OF EPIC.. is not one or two or the group was partyin all night but for the whole students of Epic....which Epic breached the contract with the students and its not acceptable if you were in the shoes of these students (on Oct 08) u would react the same way ...
Epic should provide an Ethical and Professional way of doing business and the first step is to honor these contracts that the students paid!! in full or partial and Signed...

The other face of epic u didnt see it yet....patience and we anxiously waitng your Review when u finish the Commercial ...
GOOD LUCK!!:D:ok:

cyrilroy21
21st Apr 2009, 17:33
You are right if i was in their shoes i would do the same thing and most likely retaliate the same way

I was accepted into epic's program on Oct 7th 2008 . I knew very well what had happened .

I had discussed with Mike personally about the incident .

He told me that back in 2008 their sales team was still selling the garunteed program for $39000

He told me that because of the rising costs and fuel it was not possible for them to continue with their program at that cost .
Thats why for the current students
Either they charged more or they had to shut down epic and send the students back home .

Which do you think was better for the students ? Leave epic and go back without getting a commercial after spending all that money .
that
Or spend a little more and get done with your commercial .

They reason Mike was brought into Epic was to turn around from a loss making institute into a profitable one . Epic was bleeding close to
$200,000 every month .

I am not exactly trying to defend epic here....

Sure its not the students fault that they(epic) were losing money

But it all boiled down to a situation where they charge students more money and get everyone done with their commercial.....

Or....

Shut shop and send everyone back home .
If they had to shut down they most likely file for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection which would make the contract that you signed about the fixed price void and would not be able to take any legal action against them and none of the students would get their money back or finish with their commercial

It was bad management on epic's part to get to a point where they faced a situtation like that :=. Infact it really cost them their reputation .

I dont think it is outright fair to call them scammers . If they were scammers they would have shut down epic a long time ago and none of the students would have finished the program

I am putting all this information out here because i think epic should have told the students what really happened back then .

I am not sure what the other face of epic is like . But i sure
would appreciate if you could tell me so that i can decide whether to
continue here or not .

Now for those who broke the rules and regulations

You broke the rules guys :=

You suffer the consequences

Its as simple as that.....

You want put the the truth on the net......

Sure go ahead......

Just make sure that you put the whole truth out there

Blue Skies everyone

wis3384
21st Apr 2009, 18:45
to make note the price in october was 57999...it was advertise on their old website they used to have ...so its not 39000(just to make it clear for the reviewrs)

on the other hand, well u wannt to know the other face of epic???
well sure its easy ...just ask them how REALLY did they get the 2 Duchess 2-3 months ago? the real story and we can elaborate from there....

and Oh Yeh!!! for your information Epic was gonna close but they didnt survive because they changed the contracts but because of the maldivian investor...right??:=

:ok:

cyrilroy21
21st Apr 2009, 19:12
Well i like to hear your side of the story first

I am not sure about epic shutting down and about the duchess

True the maldivian investors did help a lot

But it certainly does not help if current students try drive away future students

In doing so we all will shut epic down indirectly

If you do have information then please do post it here on pprune.org

Good or bad . It does not matter .

No flying school out there is perfect .
Each has its good and bad points

If there is something that you know that the rest of us dont then please post it out here instead of waiting for someone like me to find out later and then post it here

If You know it . Then tell it here :ok:

well its not ethical from me as an outsider to open the precise information and disclose it to the public...maybe the stuff i heard its isnt 100% true...
so i give the benefit of the doubt and i just come over here and post on pprune just warnings on flight schools that they are doing a bad job and bad customer service...:mad::mad:

that was my 2 cents, the comments on fligthschoolreviewers.com give a good feedback on the school so am sorry !!

So if you haven't gone to Epic, if you haven't seen their facilities, if you haven't touched their new wrap around simulator you actually have little to base your arguments on.

I am a student now at Epic and it has been great. Their new ground school (Aviation Skills Development) puts the students starting now ahead of the learning curve greatly. It works out to be cheaper for Epic and the student.

Everything they claim is true. It's a 6 month program - if you mess around and fail checkrides/written exams/party then it will take longer. Get your priorities straight and you'll finish in the program. The fixed price program is a guarantee - again, if you mess around and don't take flight training seriously then you'll be kicked out of the program and put on a pay-as-you-go program - but that doesn't necessarily mean you have to pay more. It just means the financial burden is on you, not Epic anymore - the contract you have with them remains the same.

If you're looking at flight schools try to decipher all the BS and pick a school on the facts. Epic is an honest business and anyone who is slanting their name with hearsay should grow a pair.

I am currently a student at Epic. I have my CMEL with IR and im about to complete my CSEL. I have been flying just under 5mths. I came here 6mths ago. I was placed in a nice apt complex when I arrived but I was fortunate as all my other class mates were placed in Ocean Oaks. Personally, I would not live in Ocean Oaks. No way!!! I have been through the whole course from zero in this time frame. I stayed motivated and yes you could probably say I got lucky....but we make our own luck. The weather was favourable and I flew as much as I could. I had a good instructor which helps also but I have to say the instructors at the school are all good and when it comes down to it most are really cool guys. The single engine aircraft are great!!!! Simple!!! The multi are not!!! Saying that...I had so much fun flying them. I really did. Also the area the school fly out of, NSB, is perfect for learning!!! As for the nightlife...well, it sucks, and the area is rather boring to be honest but im here to fly and thats what I did and continue to do.

Overall...you will never find a perfect school anywhere I feel. I researched so many and I always found negitives and positives with everyone. Different people will have different experiences. Though for me Epic has been the right choice. I have finished my whole course in under 6mths and im leaving for home next week. At times I have been frustrated with the school and other times I have been so happy that I couldnt wait to get up in the air again. My story is a positive one with great experiences. Stay positive and motivated and you will do just fine. Im not promoting the school here, im just telling my side of it. Ill be honest and say it how it is. Anyone looking info PM me.

By the way the school does not do JAA. It is FAA only. You need to convert via a school in a JAA state or one registered to be able to do so.

To any of you considering paying up front for a flying education.
(Even if you're paying in 5 monthly installments - if you're not done in five months, you paid up front)

You should never have to pay more than a week or two up front at any time.
If you are required to pay more than a week or two in advance, then you should seriously consider NOT attending that school.

There have been numerous cases of flight schools going "bankrupt" with hundreds, even thousands of pilots being victimized as a result.

A flight school that is financially sound will not require significant advance payments, but will also not be expected to carry the students.

A "flight school" that is not financially sound, or is in fact a ponzi scheme (using the new persons payments to cover the expenses of the previous person), will require significant amounts upfront.

Even if the school presents the argument that they need to know that you're "good for it", your response should be, well, if I can't make a payment, you stop teaching me, meanwhile you'll get money from me in advance each week.

Hi,
i was working with Epic since the start of their business in 1999 and i have to say no everything looks good as it is presented. few american schools are authorized to conduct PPLs and IRs in USA and no schools are authorized to conduct practical exams or check rides in USA unless of a special permission by JAA with JAA instructor and examiners in loco conducting the flight training (obviously no schools are willing to pay instructor or examiners to stay in USA).
All i'm saying is careful with Epic as you may end up with a good FAA training and no JAA certificates in your hands unless you come back to Europe and especially in UK you can add an extra £20,000 minimum to convert.

This school will only take your money and nothing else. They are lying on almost everything !
Never trust a single word of what they say ! Indicated prices are completely wrong ! Answers are lies ! Absolute no structure on the instruction and courses ! They take money from your account for no reason and even with evidences, you have to fight to get your money back. I still waiting my money... ! A lot of mistakes with money (favorable to Epic !!!) Some instructors are really arrogant and they play with students ! And now they are using a new informatics system, completely unuseful for students, but students have to pay it ! This is a instructors and school tool but they don't pay. Only students ! The rooms are really dirty ! You will pay 450$/double and 650$/single. We were 4 students paying 2200$/month for this crap ! The normal rent of this apartment is 1200$ ! Students pay 1000$ more per apartment ! A huge amount of money for the school ! I have so many other examples...
The best advice is really NEVER GO TO THIS SCHOOL ! NEVER !!!
