Concord @ hatton Cross

Hi All

I drive past concord at the BA maintainence hanger near hatton cross on quite a regualr basis, and glad to see she looks in a good state, what work goes on to keep her looking so good, and what state is she in, are engines/cockpit/cabin intact or have they all been stripped?

Also there is a BA a/c missing a tail and has been for at least a few months, whats the story with that?

That particular Concorde is still flown regularly. Thats why it looks so good. The Aircraft with no tail is designed like that. It is not widely known but BA has engineers who are also doing special work for the US NASA crowd. The Concorde flies most nights after dark, using a new Hush kit fitted by said BA engineers. It flies mostly over Afganistan, and other operational theaters. It also does a few High altitude (read low space orbit flights) to test new shuttle components.

The Aircraft 'without a tail', is in fact supposed to be like that, it is a test airframe, again for development, used by both Boeing and Airbus (thats why it is in UK, not France or the USA).

It also flies at night, but is special, because it doesn't actually need to use the runways, as it is a STOL variant, and only needs about 100 to 200m, so regular Heathrow observers often see it using its parking area as a 'launch pad', so to speak.

^^ I suspect the aircraft without a tail is G-YMMM, the 777 that indeed demonstrated "STOL" (without the TO) in January this year :)

Both wrong.
The tailless aircraft is a test bed for despatching little militant tarts from bassa using their mobiles to complain that they might have to work an extra minute because they cant tell the difference between a slot delay after push back and industrial hrs agreements. All this despite the heart attack in row 20, dehydration in rows 2 to 10. starvation of ethiopian dimensions in Y class and a specific instruction not to use their phones.

Next time they have an attack of captainmyopia (the inability to see or recognise whos actually the efing boss) A button is pressed in the flight deck on rotation and they get their wish...offloaded.

As for concorde what all the nostalgia bullsh1t. Useless bit of kit,good riddance. :E

The model is at Brooklands (www.brooklands.org (http://www.brooklands.org))

There are plans to put it on the roundabout at the entrance to Mercedes World but they have not been agreed yet.
