I have been known, after a long day in the cockpit, to turn the old home computer on and escape into the thrilling world of computer games.

Nothing like creating a large army of knights, bowmen, trebuchets, pikemen...the list of men goes on, and then doing battle with whatever comes your way. It really takes your mind off everything and has to be better than drinking a few glasses of scotch. The game I'm talking about, whitch happens to be my fave, is "age of empires/ the conquerors".

Its time to come out of the "closet". :)

I want to know what your, all time, best computer game is?

Command & Conquer - Tiberian Sun, Red Alert 2

I could go on!

Also, Links Championship Edition and Civilisation III.

They all rule.

Grim Fandango has to be my best game of all time - It's a great RPG set over four years, and two CD's :) - It will take you ages to get through, and requires a lot of thinking, but well worth it! I think it's about £14.99 now, too...

Best game at the moment is easily Medal of Honour on the PC - the Saving Private Ryan level has some of the best set piece battles I have ever seen.

As for longeveity I think the Civilisation series of games takes some beating. I'm on version 3.0 now, but so brilliant is the core concept that I could pick up the very first version from the late '80s and still be utterly addicted. A triumph of gameplay over graphics.

All time favourite series for me would be Heroes of Might and Magic.

But a good old shoot-em-up like the new Wolfenstein can be terribly relaxing too. Nothing like emptying a clip into some baddies

Hmmm, that almost sounded a bit disturbing....

Mango, Fox, . .Get yourselves a copy of Empire Earth. . .I too was a big fan of C&C then AOE but Empire Earth is the penultimate strategy challenge. . .Absolutely brilliant, my only complaint, too hard!. .You won't be dissapointed.. .As for all time, well, here goes:

Platform: Sonic The Hedgehog (a revolution in its field). .Beat em up: Street fighter II (no arguements surely). .Shoot em up: Quake (a great concept made better, Haven't got into the new wolfenstein though!). .Sports: Madden Football (hard to believe American footy could be enjoyable on console). .Strategy: see above, this game is awesome.

Honourable mentions: Goldeneye, Galaga, Road Rash, Mario Cart, MS Combat sim, Grand Theft Auto III.. .Did I forget any?

Dokey

PS:Mango, have you tried the scotches at the same time :)

Keep your eyes open for "C&C Renegade", which is scheduled for release in Feb 2002. The esiest way to describe it is "Command & Conquer meets Quake".

Also on the watchlist is Warcraft III, finally a new release of what's by now a classic

Hi !

I'm into Quake III Team Arena myself, online , . .Where the objective is to slaughter anything that moves in beutifully rendered 3d Gothic and ever-changing environments. Incidentally Quake 3 is still the benchmark PC and Graphics card manufactures use to flaunt their systems when comparing speeds.. .Great mindless stress relief that will show off every capability of your new Pentium 4 a must !!

A modification for Half-Life called "Counter-Strike".

Playable online it's a team based shooter where you take the side of either the terrorists or counter-terrorist teams with fully realistic weapons and maps.

There's even a map with a hostage situation on-board a 747.

The Civ series of games is very addictive.

I'm also a fan of the Championship Manager series of games. Pure addictive football escapism.

Think my favourite- and it's a free download (unless you buy the US$12 audio add on)- is the Air Traffic Control Simulator ( www.xavius.com )
