In the middle of my JAR PPL course and wanting to take the test to gain my FRTOL. Downloaded the "cap 413" document from the CAA website.

I'm guessing its probably worth while to read through all 198 pages of it, but just wondering if theres any really important stuff i should pay extra attention to for the test. Any tricks the examiner can throw in? Difficulty of the test? any info greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Mark. :)

It might be worth asking your RT examiner if there is anyone who could do a mock test for you - I had one and it was invaluable.

When you get the brief, you have 5/10 minutes to plan the "flight". Write everything down, all your calls, the order of a mayday.

Cheers

You will have to do all the calls for a normal VFR flight, a MAYDAY relay and maybe other things. A mock test is a brilliant idea. db16

Pay extra attention to:

MATZ penetration
Maydays and Pan Calls (making, relaying and cancelling)
SVFR clearances
Position reports
Items which must be read back
Understanding Air/Ground, AFIS and ATC services

Safety Sense Leaflet 22, on the CAA website, includes a mock test.
