Virus Warning - a timely reminder

Just a push to those poor souls who haven't got decent virus protection. I was busy working round the web the other day, searching for a hotel in Indonesia, when I suddenly got a virus pop up warning.. .Seems that one of the hotel web sites had been infected with a vbs virus, and so was likely to infect any poor soul who visited the site.

The analogy must be there - every time you visit a web site it's a bit like having sex with someone you don't know - use pretection or watch out for the consequences (and I am not aiming this thread for jet blast either, sorry)

Good point, just upgraded mine yesterday.. .May be an idea to stick the address of the infected website up here, It may stop other poor souls getting infected. <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

OK, here is the address of the infected site.. .It is now over 1 week since I discovered the problem, and e-mails to the hotel warning them of the virus have gone unanswered.

Todays Telegraph says there is a new one out there called MyParty.

Not 15 minutes ago I got an e-mail addressed correctly to me from a seemingly valid e-mail address. It asked if I would like to look at pics from My Party on the subject line.

Fotunately, I remember just catching a glimpse of "MY PARTY" on this thread here this morning. It was that virus. I didn't open the attachments. Pheewee!

Just remembered somethin else! It was on a yahoo.com addy!!

Re the 'MyParty' virus:

I received the same virus sent to my hotmail account twice last night. When I selected the option of downloading the attachment, hotmail assured me that it contained no viruses (automatically scanned by McAfee). It was only when the download started that Norton Antivirus raised the alarm, preventing the download.

This morning I have received two "My Party" emails. One to my normal home address and one to my PPRuNe one. Norton spotted it on my home one before I could have even opened it. . .I also have the preview pane disabled after advice from here about viruses in emails that don't actually require you to open an attatchment. Sound advice.

Try AVG it's a free download plus regular updates and has been recommended on PPRuNe before. Better still buy Norton.

I have no relationship to any company producing A/V software, so these are purely personal views.

Dr Solomons used to be good, but now it is part of Mcafee it has gone downhill.. .Also had lots of problems with Norton screwing up.

One I prefer at the moment is PC-Cillin by trend.

Not only does conventional filestore virus protection but also real time web page pretection (integrates with IE) and real time PoP3 e-mail protection (integrates with Outlook)

Downloadable, and auto updating.

That's my current tuppence worth.. .Cheers
