Hi,

Was hoping somebody would be able to offer me some advice/assistance on the following...

I recently went to Mykonos on holiday, flying on an XL B738 (G-XLAO). I knew in advance that the runway was only c1900m long, and anticipated the 'aggressive' breaking that would be employed on landing. What I didn't appreciate was that we would land practically on the piano keys.

Also, the departure the following week wasn't as 'sporty' as I was expecting, and we seemed to make it airbourne around 250-200m before the end of the runway. Mykonos certainly has little room beyond the tarmac to stop.

Whilst I understand that XL will have no doubt conducted detailed planning for operations from this airport, can somebody advise how 'marginal' operations are?

Are the a/c payload restricted? Can reduced power be used on take-off? How 'low' is V1? What considerations to pilots make on both landing and departure from short runways in hot climates? Also, are operations affected by contaminated surfaces?

Many thanks in advance.
