can you use a calculator in the ATPL exams or is it whizz wheel only.

You can use both, CRP-5 is most widely used.

Calculator yes! (cant be one of those programmable ones though)

yeah you can use both in the exams. only thing is that the calc must not have a memory function or somthing as they dont want you programming everything in before the exam!
whizz wheel i used is the Pooleys CRP5 and seemed to do the trink. i think it is one of the most popular ones.

You can use a scientific, non-programmable calculator in the exams - I used a Casio fx-83 - and the invigilator will check. You cannot use an electronic flight computer or programmable scientific calculator.
The Pooleys CRP-5 is probably the most popular as there is a rumour that that is the whizz-wheel that the CAA used when setting the questions!
