Good luck lads.

I interviewed in Jan 08. Great experience put in the work and you will enjoy it. 50/50 personel/tech. Know why you want the job away from the big shiny Jet. Know the pro's and con's of living in HK and why you don't want to stay in Aus. Be careful what you bring up they will probe, make sure you can back everything up. Most important i think, BE YOURSELF.

Tech, A few Q's straight from HTBJ. If you have done any research or have any friends with previous interview questions you will have seen most of the Q's asked. Aerodynamics is a given swept wings etc. A lot of the tech was scenario type questions more of a conversation mainly based around your current type. Know everything about the aircraft you are flying. What are you going to think about if .... happens? etc. They seem to be more interested in how you think not what your answer is, of course you want to be in the right ball park. Don't be afraid to smile and have a laugh if you can personality is important.

The interviewers were very pleasant and make you feel comfortable. Just don't get to comfortable stay focused don't let your guard down.

Again good luck

As Bubba said HTBJ is a good source of info as alot of the questions will come from there. You will also do a written tech quiz with about 30 questions, not too hard but I think the Capt XYZ has a sample of them. I got nailed on questions about HK and about family, personal issues and all that. The technical was very heavy on aerodynamics, What type of aircraft the model in front of me was, lots of q's about Cx, number of aircraft/history. If you don't know the answer just say so.
If your in sydney I recommend an interview coach. It helped me out and opened my eyes to alot of things I had never thought about.. And I got the job. :ok:

PM me if you want contact details. Good luck

Interesting, as the Australian aviation market starts to turn once again the interest picks up @ HK, why not? Its a great airline, and HK well its ok:)
Its good to work with an airline that can operate for 18 months under its current capacity with zero people on seats before the money dry’s up!
To the stability!

Hey All,

I also have an initial in Syd in Aug, just wondering what experience / acft everyone has come from?

I only ask because the interview came as a shock, I only just met minimums...

Good Luck

Dog

I had about 2100hrs mostly turbo prop. I didn't really expect an interview either. Seems the rumored 3000hr min has changed a little!! Give it your best shot, I start in Sep!

Good Luck

Cheers Bubba,

Any Tips on what to bone up on?

HTBJ is the obvious starting point, however, I have had mixed reports on XYZ being a waste of time and the ABC book being the book of choice.

Did you use either?

Cheers

Quick question for those that have August interviews in Sydney. Are any of you applying for FO? I've had an application in for a while with no feedback so I'm interested if they are still recruiting DEFO's at the moment. If so I guess my hours aren't competitive. Cheers.

Hey Bomber,

I know of a few that are up for interviews in this session, we were all SO applicants.

Good luck

Cheers wardog. I didn't tick the SO box so I was curious if any DEFO people were being interviewed. Not sure if it was a smart move but I have personal reasons for not applying for SO.

Bombs,

The Oz based DEFO slots have been filled for the year. Standby to standby; they will hopefully have an idea of next years reqs in Oct/Nov ish.

Until then, keep updating!

All the best

flyboy,
Thanks for the info, I'll keep the file upto date as you suggest. I'm actually interested in an Adelaide base which I hear isn't that popular, here's hoping anyway.

starskate,
Sounds like a Cathay slot may be your best bet. As a summary I believe Qantas are recruiting, only you'll need to meet their minimum requirements and be willing to do the SO thing. Jetstar are on hold at the moment but standby for movement next year if new airframes start arriving. Virgin also have a hold on recruitment, are delaying airframes, and parking a couple they already have.

No probs. Adelaide should be one of the best bets around as they are less popular than other bases. If I were you I'd just update, and perhaps follow up with the odd email or phone to the recruitment team to show continued interest. You never know when someone doesn't turn up and opens up a slot!

Cheers

It goes for everybody converting to an oz license. You have to do the IREX exam, ATPL airlaw and an Instrument flight test. I don't think it has to be on an A320 unless the rules have changed. Usually any twin will do.
If you think CASA is bad try converting to JAR and see how much of a pain is the A$$ that is. And those dollar signs arn't there by mistake. :(

What sort of experience do you have?
