About to convert my ME/CPL/IR from FAA to JAA, I wish to know the validity of such license as I know that, unlike FAA, there is a validity period. I have passed my 14 JAR-ATPL exams (CAA-UK) and am in the process to complete my training.

I know that I will have to convert my IR rating in Europe as well, and any advice concerning this would be very welcome too (where, costs etc..) !

In advance, thank you for your wise advices.

5 or 10 years for the CPL - depending on what you pay for.

The ATPLs also have a validty time period:

*All requirements for the issue of the CPL(A) and IR(A) must be met and the applicant required to apply to PLD for issue within the 36 month validity period of the theoretical knowledge examinations.

You then have to keep the CPL+IR current, every 36 months, in order to not let your ATPL theory exam results lapse.
