Anybody see the above programme last night?

Felt a bit like a modern version of the BBC series 'Sailor' filmed back in 1976.

Harriers are nice, SHAR's nicer still, but to my mind they don't beat Phantom's & Bucc's... Hard hat on for incoming...

Look forward to hearing others thoughts. Surprised it's not got a mention on here already actually?

Good point.

Although in my defence, the last time the thread received a post was last Saturday, so when I submitted my post, the actual thread relating to this programme was way down the line. I was expecting someone to comment on the programme immediately after it finished...

I'll go back to my cave now :O

Yes, but they don't seemed to have learned much though. Still using cooks, clerks and bottle washers for boarding parties. The training was a joke. Why don't they have a section of RMs on board for what is a specialised role?

Of course, before the War the Marines manned one of the four turrets of a cruiser, so they'd have had plenty.

Rather than post an entire platoon of RM, they could just post a capable RM Sgt. who could then work up a team from ship's company volunteers. As it was it looked like the partially-sighted leading the blind. When not running the boarding party he'd make a valuable addition to the Regulator's office, perhaps.

RMs are probably too busy fighting the desert war - that said: think there was an RM Sgt in the group - he looked like a Bandy!! :suspect:

Airborne Artist - Which war?:) I believe that you will find that they continued to do so long after WW II and, in fact, manned Y-mounting in Type 81 Tribal Class frigates into the 1970s at least. More importantly, your suggestion is well worth official consideration, not least recalling a "bit of a problem" with a certain boarding party up the Gulf. It would be a good sea job - and a break - for a Sgt RM and he would be good company for the Ship's Volunteer Band Bandmaster.

PS Have a look at the last line of Post 73 on Page 4 of Warship - the 2008 TV version

Looking on 'defence intranet' stories you'll see that the RM are currently doing sterling service elsewhere, as well as providing a few boarding parties.:ok:
