View Full Version : Is this THE most interesting website in the world ever???

I came across this website/forum where people explore and report on 'out of bounds' locations such as abanded or cloased lunatic asylums, hospitals, nuclear bunkers, tunnel systems, air raid shelters etc. I just could not stop looking at this site, maybe it's just me but I found it jaw dropping what has been either forgotten about or sealed off from the public.

This is arguably a better site:

Aaa yes didn't know about that one.

You won't find this kind of this on your site though...:}

The oddest thing is, because they are technically trespassing they have to do most of these at night.

Creepy abandoned mental asylum + dead of night = Wear your brown pants.

Creepy abandoned mental asylum + dead of night = Wear your brown pants.

I don't know which is the worst treatment for mentally ill people - the old 'asylums' or th new 'care in the community' which seems too often to dump people on the streets.

I'm sure there's a bit there somewhere about contrails!

I am on 28DL!!! Been to lots of places, my favourite place is an abandoned lunatic asylum at Hellingly in East Sussex. Amazing place. There is another ppruner here who I know does a lot of exploring, I wont say who but I know he is a ppl too.

Here is a link to a good report from Hellingly (not by me by the way) Hellingly Report (http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=26618)

One of the best threads I have read on an internet forum is on that place. It is the one where the two lads get on board the German U-Boat that was stored at Birkenhead Docks, it is amazing. I will try and find the link to it now, in fact, when I first read about it I posted a link to it here in JB, I will look for that one now.

The oddest thing is, because they are technically trespassing they have to do most of these at night.

I have never done a night one and I know of few who have, the torches would be a dead give-away to the security guys looking for you.

Had to do one a while back first thing on a sunday morning when there were no security guys about!

Oh I remember the U-Boat thread.

I used to work in Salisbury House in the City, one time home of the South African Railway Company and prior to that the site of Bethlehem - the asylum, not the other one.

One day I walked down a staircase and I think I started to go below ground level. I turned a corner and I remember seeing a lot of bars there. Now it could have been a storage place or whatever, but I have to say that something freaked me out. I just got a really weird feeling, turned around and left the way I had come as quickly as I could.

I never went back there. :suspect:

I was looking at this myself, it looks like an invite only kinda' club. Suppose it stops unwanted people (journos, authorities, wannabees of the irritating kind, wind-ups) joining.

Go on google, type in your search terms then put a space, then type 'site:www.28dayslater.co.uk' (without quotation marks).

The site 28days later was closed down by it's owner reecently as there were too many idiots posting on the forums and the general 'feeling' of the forum was losing it's way a bit so he binned it.

He has now re-opened it but with limited access, looks more like the old 'clique' are allowed to post and no-one else. Fair enough of course.

You can still search for things and there are a hell of a lot of great threads there still, you just have to look for them.

As for the U-Boat thread I think it got pretty nasty legally so the thread was removed for obvious reasons. Great shame as it was one of the best threads I have seen for a long time.

Most people from there now use other forums such as the 'Derelict Places' forums. Just as good and a lot relaxed about the rules as some of the 'conditions' on 28days were pretty weird.

New members not allowed to PM until 'ok'ed' and to get ok'ed you had to post up some 'reports' which in turn lead to some pretty silly people just rushing out and 'exploring' to get the much desired 'full member' status putting themselves and others at risk. The fact that so many people were trying break into places and such, it started to ruin things for the rest of us so something had to give and he pulled the site as too many people we getting too silly out there. (quite right too I think)

Loads of silly things like that, popular threads being closed because the owner was 'bored' of the subject, in the long run as well as some poor moderation led, I think to the site being overun by idiots. If they were spotted earlier and dealt with quickly the site would have remained full on for us all to see. Shame really as it was/is such an awsome site.
