Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone has got a cabin crew job with a criminal record.
Sorry its a bit of a random question

You will have to apply for a CRC from disclosure Scotland in the UK. Your Airside Pass will depend on the certificate thay return.

I would think it depends on what your crime actually was. I can't see you getting a pass if you have been convicted of murder or subversive activities.

The CRC check was brought in after 9/11, it was designed to assess the suitability of airside pass holders and if their past criminal activities were an indication of their possible threat to the security of aircraft/passengers etc. It is not a further assessment of your character or part of the interview process.

However that is not to say a person who has to accept your CRC check and give it the ok for your pass to be issued will not exercise their own level of discretion and 'forget' the original reason the CRC was introduced.

As for wearing sandals with socks and still getting a job, the recruiters must of had an off day.

So do you mean at the end of the day it is up to the emplyers discretion to recuit regardless?

I would think so, although I really am not sure what actually does happen.

I do know of people that were still issued a pass whilst having a criminal record for drink driving, but they were already in the employ of the airline and this was when the CRC was introduced. How the process has evolved over the years I cannot say.

I would imagine that you will get a lot of varying responses on this thread over the next couple of days.

What I would say though; is that if you have lied about it on an application form and then come clean you won't get the job. If all of you have done is say that you are willing to have a CRC then speak to your prospective employer when you apply for the check. I would do it in person. Make an appointment to speak to someone and be open and honest.

Watch your thread closely then make up your own mind how to go about dealing with it.

This is purely my own opinion and may in fact be totally incorrect but here goes...

It's hard to imagine any criminal record that doesn't say something negative about you. Either you've got some serious blight on your integrity or trustworthiness or you've been incredibly careless at some stage. Not exactly qualities a cc manager would be looking for.

Even if it didn't pose a threat to airport security, it might still pose a problem to a recruiter wondering about your character. You'd have to put forward a really convincing case as to what happened and why it's never going to happen again.

This is a toughie, but I think if you do have one (or know someone who does) all you can do is apply and see how you go. You may be pleasantly surprised or you might be no worse off than you are right now. It can't hurt.

What was the offence and when were you convicted? If you got caught shoplifting as a kid fifteen years ago then the conviction would be spent.

The airline doesn't issue the airside pass, the Airport do, be that Manchester airport group, BAA, Peel etc etc.

On a crc check things only normally come up for the last 5 years but some things are always revealed, these include but is not exhausted by crimes against the person, sexual offences and certain drug offences.

most cautions/traffic offences won't come up, most things non custodial won't either.

My advice would be to get a disclosure if you're worried and if it's clear don't worry, it won't change.

I had to go through disclosure for working with kids and even though I dont have a crimanal record I was easy to find due to having a speeding driving offence.
Does this mean I have a criminal record?:=:=
At the same time another girl who was going through disclosure had problems as she had no record and it took longer to find her.
I dont think there are many hardcore criminals out there applying to cabin crew so you should be ok

The link below will take you a pdf document that BA have available on their careers website. I know my current airline used this list when I joined. It lists all convictions that will exclude you from being able to hold a UK airside pass.

I'd like to know the answer to this question as well.

I got my CPL earlier this yearand I've recently been convicted of driving on a suspended licence which has appeared on my criminal record.
It was suspended due to going over my demerit points from speeding.

I know it was silly to drive but I had my reasons.

I'm going to talk to my CFI at my flying school to see what he reckons about it but what do you think my chance are now? :oh:

This is something I have always wondered....
If you are crew based away from the UK for e.g... working for Ryanair based in Madrid. Who would they apply to for you to be criminally checked? uk or spain etc?
and dont different airports have different procedures, I know there is one in Germany that doesnt even require refs.

Confused .

Easyjet appear to have a single source for airside passes, probably Luton.

At Ryanair local passes are the norm, hence if you are based anywhere other than UK you do not need the CRC.
