Fantastic pics Karl, especially like the '6 diving for the threshold... magic! Darn right they are of interest here!

PPP, I would suggest that this thread be moved or a link added to the "fantastic pics" thread in due course so they don't disappear off the page and out of sight?

Great pix, Karl. Did I miss you listing your website? What is it?

An old co-worker grew up in Fairbanks in the 1940s, and no doubt worked on the radios on many of these planes. I'm pointing him to this thread.

From speaking to the Airport Operations guy who gave us the ramp tour at Ted Stevens, this is the only survivor. I read somewhere that the other one was scrapped sometime towards the back end of 2000. This one, N199AB, is still airworthy and was noted taxying in 2007; it is, however, only permitted to fly when it's needed to fulfill a government contract. The sound, I'm told, is immense and I'd love to see it!

Graybeard - sorry, I wasn't sure how acceptable it was to 'plug' my site - there's a link in my profile, but for the record it's http://www.karladrage.co.uk I'm still to add most of the modern military aspects from the AK trip (we visited Elmendorf and Eielson to take in Red Flag Alaska 08-2) as I'm waiting for the report to be published elsewhere first.
