Greetings fellow airmen.

Whoever said the Malaysian ATPL cannot be bought? Although we sit for the CAA UK ATPL examination that is both set and marked in the UK, it still passes through the local civil aviation authority. Given a chance, it is sad to say most Asians will take the opportunity to make a quick buck. This is exactly what happens in Malaysia. ATPL examination papers including all possible sets for the exact date of the examination can be purchased for a significant price. However sharing the cost among many does little deter people.

You would realise by close scrutiny at the examination results, those who purchase ATPL papers would have exceptionally high marks (not to say that studying doesn't help) on all papers except the Navigation paper. Reason being, Navigation is a very practical paper. You either know it or not. For those cheaters, you can run but you cannot hide!

Thank goodness, the ATPL examination does not have a detrimental effect on flight safety and is a mere licensing requirement worldwide.

How are we suppose to have a professional worldclass aviation society if third world mentality and greed keeps getting in the way.

Fly safe!

I do believe we have a considerable number of Singaporeans who sit for their ATPL in Malaysia.
Would that make the Singapore ATPL suspect?

Dear Dinosaur,

The Singaporean ATPL should be suspect only if the Singaporeans sitting for it had access to the forsaid "bought" papers.

I doubt the Singaporeans would have such access to the bought ATPL papers as the circle is a small but an exclusive one, known mostly to the airline pilots.

At one time the buying of ATPL examination papers were so widespread because the Malaysian DCA made it compulsory to pass the ATPL examination, in order to fly commercial aircraft >5700 Kgs beginning the year 2000. This of course basically mean every pilot in MAS had to posess one with the exception of the co-pilots on the DHC-6 fleet.

Once again, safe flying!

It would be quite naive to think that the availibility of answers is restricted to one particular nationality. No one condones this practice but to point out that it is doubtful that Singaporeans are involved is foolish.

Those who bought their ratings in exchange for a job are called prostitute-pilots in some countries,so what do u term those so call professional pilots who bought their ATPL? Professional prostitute-pilots I supposed?
