Does anyone know if MAS still recruit Expat Captains with experience on the type? If so what are the pay and conditions like?

Cant say I know too much about MAS but I note the locals are leaving in droves so things cant be too good. I also believe the pay is crap and the local currency (ringit?) is pegged 3.8 to the US$. From what I gather expats (if theres any left) make about 10,000-12,000 local ringit a month on the 737 so after you do the sums its very very low.
I cant say for sure wether they still recruit or recruit Westerners as Ive heard they have some from Iraq. Mahatir hates the West and since MAS has been taken over by the government they may have an anti-Western policy but check first.

Well said Slash. 10-12 000RM per month is good money locally. However Dr M does not like the white skin at all. Caution required, although discrimination may be hard to see at first. In my view, he would sell his own Mother if she were not Malay and his government reflects this.

Fitz,
Are you or have you been an expat in MAS?

But having said that, Fitz, I found the MAS crews a pleasure to fly and socialise with, with none of the overt "hate the West, they'll try to re-colonise us" bs, that Mahatir spews out nightly on the evening news.

BTW, I believe Dr M's mother was Indian - not Malay...he's not 100% Bumi.

Absolutely, Kaptin M, I think the Malaysian hierarchy does no justice to any of the population.... but that's the same everywhere in the world it seems. Dr M keeps his mother under his hat, doesn't he? :) I wasn't aware of that....
Gen-x I am considering it although not necessarily in aviation.... see my profile! Hope everything works out for you all in MAS and SIA right now. I enjoy flying with you.
