Just received this from a friend who was at the scene...

Aeroplane Crash near Lotus Supermarket:

Late this afternoon, a Royal Thai Airforce plane carrying six people burst into flames in one their twin engines one minute after take-off. The plane dropped on to high voltage electricity cables on Chiangmai-Hangdong Road. A row of shophouses were burnt down. Lotus Supermarket is about 2 km from my house and the site of the crash is about 1 1/2 km from away from my estate which is at the end of the runway.

Four of the passengers died instantly while another badly burnt were taken to Suan Dork Hospital. While the wreckage was being cleared, the road was jammed few kilometers long for several hours.

Condolences to the victims and their families.

Good thing they weren't using RWY 36 ... there would have been more fatalities on the gound if they did.
