HI

Indonesia should be avoided until stand off between the presiden and parliament is over.
Other than that, Indonesian people are very friendly and kind and just keep smiling and they will do the same. Learning a few words of their language will help and that should not be a problem since their lingo is fairly easy.
Water from the tap is a big no-no and you have to used bottled water even to brush your teeth. Ordering a salad carries with it a risk as you do not know if they washed it wiath a tap water. Food is delicious and cheap.

ENJOY IT

ETOPS,

Try to keep a low profile whenever there is public unrest and head in the opposite direction when you start to see crowds building. Once you get to know people, on the whole, they're nice and easy going (exception being a few taxi drivers at CGK!) and would do their utmost to please.

Their operators (apart from Garuda) mostly operate ancient aircraft. The CGK domestic terminal can be mistaken for an air museum at times! It wasn't that long ago that Bouraq operated HS 748's out of CGK (they may still do??). Merpati still operates F-27's and 737-200's out of Bali and I've seen an Electra http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/eek.gif at CGK in the mid 90's operated by Mandalla!

I'm interested to know whether you're going there to job hunt? If so, don't forget to visit Halim airport in Jakarta .. a few corporate jets operate from there.

Good luck! http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/cool.gif

And whatever happened to Sempati Air? They had a few Fokker 70's and A300's some time ago.

Just to be technically correct..........

Sempati were around for many years before Tommy took over.
DC-3's and F227 in the early seventies...

Hmmm..... I remember getting food poisoning in Medan! Anyway, I was thinking of fronting up to Garuda or alike with some cash to buy a 737 rating or similar. What is the chance of getting a 'yes' and a job afterwards?

I've got 700TT, 90 multi and 3 x ATPL theory.

Thanx in advance!
