I liken the 777 to a BMW and the A340 to a Cadillac. Any thoughts here?

Only that the BMW and the A340 are made in Europe, the 777 and the Cadillac in the US.

777 – Ford Taurus and A340 – Volvo S80 sounds more like it. BMW and Cadillac no way. Anyway, these are just my thoughts. BTW, which 777 and which A340? The new A340-600 is way over 70m. That will make it a stretched Merc Limo, will it not?

So, how do they fly? I have only been a passenger on both. It seems like the 777 is all power and the A340 is cruising luxury.

As a pax, I prefer the 777. It has that Boeing feel to it. Rugged and solid. Which do you prefer?

New A340? Is that the ultra long range one to compete with the 777-200 and 300 Extended Range?

Hey WLT, since you are an SQ 777 jockey, can you give us a more technical comparison between the 777 and A340?
Like, how do the two compare with one engine out on the climb (at their respective MTOW at ISA)?

This has been done to death. No responses to this angling, please.

Don't you know that I have already been exposed. My real job is a bus driver. Anyway, I have more interesting things to read and reply at PPrune. Ask Lee. He can confirm that I am a fakey. Later.

Having experience on both sides of the fence, I have the following comment:-
777 - big, fast, noisy and overpowered(in normal ops,
340 - big, not so fast, very quiet and not so ovrepowered(in any ops)
If yo are into basics, then the 777 is for you. But if you are a technowiz, then the 340 is your machine.
Having said that, if you are into doing the least possible then like me you will prefer the 340.

Enjoy whatever machine you fly.

Bhing... thanks for that insight...now that's the kind of response some of us wannabes are looking for.

...keeping on topic .. I don't know about others, but I do find it difficult to relate aircraft performance to cars http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/confused.gif
