As a result of negotiations during last weeks strike by local pilots at KAL, management has imposed a freeze on the employment of any foreign pilots until at least 31 December 2001.

Sorry Won2go, you are wrong. Due to its recent strike, KAL has now agreed to stop the hiring of expat pilots at the end of 2001 and pledged to reduce the expat numbers by 25-30% over the following 6 years. They plan to achieve this through natural attrition due to retirements. Those who plan to stay will have their contracts continuing to be renewed.

I quote from the Korean Air crew site:

In addition to the above agreement, Korean Air acknowledges the following:

6. The company will freeze hiring of foreign pilots until December 31, 2001. By

December 31, 2007, the number of foreign pilots will be reduced by 25-30 percent.

Can someone tell why KAL was looking for expat pilots to fly its airplanes last year? Wasn't it to improve its standards? How has it been lately? Is it true that report about the KAL MD11 crash described on Flight Int'l? Well.......
