Hi All

Just a straight question for the engineering guys out there working for IASA. What are they like to work for?

Never actually worked for them myself, but did get offered a LAME position in PER, went through all the induction/approval training etc.. from what I could tell they seemed ok, money was lacking though.

I think they may be losing a few contracts now, as of the start of the year they were doing Tiger SIN, Garuda, and Qantas Rockwell.(maybe a few others, not 100% sure)
I have heard rumours that they may be losing the Tiger contract, and also I'm not sure if they ever had Brunei or were bidding on it, but I think thats going to another company aswell.

I heard a few of the guys have been jumping ship.

Not really definative info sorry.

IASA guy's reckon there is now a "gentlemans" agreement between IASA, Panasonic and QF to stop this from happening. Too many guys leaving due to poor pay. In true cartel style.......

Poor pay seems pretty standard, or is it poor even compared to Q?
What about training?

What about training?

There was mention of 737NG training, carried out in the Phillipines to cover Garuda, also a avionic friend was offered a A330 Radio course for QF Rockwell.

Due to the lack of work, I'm not really sure if there would be much else on offer, unless some new contracts were landed.
Most of the Tiger and Garuda work/transits are carried out late at night and in the small hours if I remember correctly.

A slight diversion of this thread, since QANTAS has dumped it's contracts who has picked them up. Is it the airlines themselves or ones like IASA, John Holland, CX etc?

I don't know too much but Air NZ in MEL may have given their AME work to JHAS, while the Air NZ managers are there providing certification.

AMSA have picked up quite a few, Malaysian, Korean, Brunei, Martin Air and Air Pacific off the top of my head. AME's, and some certification in there.
I believe this applys to all of AMSA's stations in AUS.

Thats about all I know.

Back to working for IASA, they do pay badly, they are poorly managed and the definately get their moneys worth out of you. They are struggling to fill positions so they are bringing inexperienced so called AME's and LAME's from Asian countries. So if you are a half decent engineer you will be left to support the station on your own.
Good Luck if you want to sell your soul.

Word on the street is 3 LAME's and a AME left IASA SYD last month. Doesn't sound to good for them at the moment.
I don't believe they they got any of the foreign contracts that were floating around after the QF strike either.

Sounds like I saved valuable time and energy by not applying then
